Cliffs of Moher - Visitor Centre & Cliff Walk
The breathtaking Cliffs of Moher situated in county Clare along the Wild Atlantic way have
majestically faced the Atlantic for 350 million years and their beauty is incomparable. The
Cliffs of Moher are part of: a UNESO Global Geopark, a special region with outstanding
geology. The Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark has sustainability as a
core element of all that it does. It supports people and organisations to work together to
ensure a cared for landscape, a better understood heritage, more sustainable tourism a
vibrant community and strengthened livelihoods. The cliffs rise to 214m/702 feet at the
highest point and range for 8 kilometres or 5 miles over the Atlantic Ocean on the western
seaboard of Co. Clare. This is a special protected area under the EU Birds Directive 1979,
currently home to Ireland’s largest mainland sea bird colony. Whether it be the cliffs
themselves carved by time, ocean and weather into fantastic shapes and formations, the
mighty Atlantic ocean or the birds, plants or other wildlife that inhabit the cliffs there are
many natural wonders to enjoy. For more information: https://www.cliffsofmoher.ie/

Guided tour through the Burren / Lough Avalla.
The Burren region is internationally famous for its landscape and flora. A visitor to the
Burren can experience the colourful diversity of flowering plants living together within
the one ecosystem. The farming community have an enormous influence on the region
and they work hand in hand with conservationists to maintain the delicate ecosystem of
the Burren area. They have managed the land in such a way as to preserve the
unusual flora and habitats that remain today. Harry Jeuken, a hard working, wise and
humane traditional Burren farmer takes us on a 6km trail through his old celtic farm
which sweeps the shores of the little lake called Lough Avalla. “Magical” is the word
often used to describe this trail that goes around the farm and includes an amazing
fairy ring, with trees and rocks draped in gleaming green moss, a holy well, hazel
woods and a classic limestone (karst), fissured pavement characteristic of the Burren.
There are wonderful views in all directions, from the steep cliffs, to Mullaghmore, and to
Lough Gealain in the National Park. This walk gives an opportunity to reflect on the
many generations who lived on and cared for this land from the Celtic and early
Christian times to the present. At the end of the circuit the trail can be taken to the tea
house and visitors are welcome to enjoy some refreshments and home baking. For

writers in the west of Ireland. The Literary Centre hosts readings, book launches,

Music & Dance Session
This is an opportunity to enjoy traditional music and dancing in a community
setting where local and visitors to the area gather together to have fun!
County Clare has a very strong traditional music culture. Kilfenora, a
gateway village to the Burren, is home to one of the most successful and
recognised ceili bands in the world-The Kilfenora Ceili Band. This Sunday
evening event is an opportunity to participate in community - based
traditional dancing and music at The Barn, in Vaughan’s Pub Kilfenora. Ceili
dances were revived in the early 20th century in an attempt to revive Irish
culture. Traditional dancing takes place weekly in Vaughan’s Pub, which has
been in the family for 300 years and this social event provides an
opportunity for people to meet their neighbours and dance. Traditional
musicians provide the dancers with lively music throughout the evening. A
local dance teacher will demonstrate the basic steps in advance so that all
can take part in the dancing and enjoy the spirit of the evening.
