This entertainer’s kitchen is the perfect combination of practicality and aesthetic.
Functionality was top of the list in the design phase and has been delivered here in spades.
Two ovens and an induction cooktop are located in the main kitchen, whilst a storage heavy but-
ler’s pantry houses an extra sink and dishwasher so that mess can easily be whisked away.
The seemingly endless island bench mirrors the battened finish of the adjacent entrance,
with gentle curves leading the eye out to the stunning backyard and pool.
This is a space you will not want to leave.

CUNNINGHAM ST
Ardent Architects were engaged to design the conversion of
this 1920’s Californian Bungalow into a modern family home.
The first consideration was how much of the existing house to
retain in the renovation. Due to rooms sizes and configuration
of the existing house, we decided with the client to keep only
the first two rooms. The existing retained house has been
restored to its former glory and integrated into the modern
extension. The concept for the design was to create large, sunlit
rooms with visual connection throughout the house.
The floor plan is designed to have a new main entry to the house
from the driveway side, this preserves the retained portion of
the existing house as well as bringing guests into the main living
area rather than past the bedrooms as the existing floor plan did.
The renovation reveals itself as you move into the kitchen area
BASTINGS ST and then into the double height space in the living area.
With the aim of producing a house for a modern family we
incorporated a number of separate living areas allowing for
flexibility in use and age groups. All the bedrooms are designed
to be generous in size to accommodate children through to
adults.
We were looking to utilize a very strong exposed steel
component to be visible from both inside and outside the
house. The design ties into the existing house by incorporating
a split pitched roof which provides high internal ceilings to the
first floor bedrooms as well incorporating high level clerestory
windows. The staggering of the roof height to the rear gives the
opportunity for split window in the first floor living area providing
views to the back yard as well as the living area below.
