Ampersand Intervention in three
                        Adarsh Schools, Punjab

IMPACT OBJECTIVE
To understand and assess the challenges faced by the students and teachers in schools in rural Punjab,
thereby ensuring delivery of quality education to the marginalised sections of the society. To set out a
conceptual framework, ensuring regularity in attendance of children and low dropout rate, higher levels
of teacher presence, and teaching activities and teaching approaches aimed at qualitative improvement
in learning outcomes.

IMPACT ASSESSMENT
To make learning progress engaging and relevant, an assessment of the teachers and students subject-
specific and linguistic abilities is to be made. Once the assessment is done, data is assimilated, which is to
be used as a premise to structure a remedial program, further paving the path for improved conceptual
understanding of all subjects.

METHODOLOGY
Hubble Adarsh Schools are categorised among the top rated educational institutions which leave no
stone unturned to provide quality education and boundless environment to facilitate its learners
through a scripted curriculum, well planned academic calendar, regular linguistic remediation, use of
digital platforms and constant periodic assessment at all levels.

INTRODUCTION
Ÿ Nurturing a hybrid concept of education.
Ÿ Facilitating digital approach of training to teachers and classroom teaching.
Ÿ Managing physical, social and cognitive development through inclusive learning.

Partnering with PEDB
Punjab Education Development Board was established in 2008 to set up Adarsh schools in Punjab
which aim to provide free of cost quality education to rural children. CBSE pattern has been adopted with
English as a medium of instruction.

Mid-day meal is provided as per rules.

Free of cost books and uniform is provided to the children in partnership with Rustomjee Kerawalla
Foundation in Adarsh schools located in districts Mohali and Sangrur.

The team is committed to run these Adarsh schools. Dedicated professionals with a highly intellectual
approach are engaged to supervise the functioning of these schools. The team is looking forward to
bringing desired changes in the future with its tireless efforts.
AMPERSAND INTERVENTION
Our team has made a number of interventions in bringing the impactful changes in Adarsh
schools like:
Ÿ Building as a learning aid (Bala).
Ÿ VAK (Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic learning).
Ÿ PEC (Physical Education Cards) linking with scholastic subjects.
Ÿ Smart classes.
Ÿ ERP (Digital platform to connect parents with the school scenario).
Ÿ Digital assets (self-made or tailor-made videos of the concepts to be taught, e-flashcards, and Zoom
classes to support learning during covid-19).

CURRICULUM PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION
The provision of quality education at an affordable cost to all children constitutes the most important
facet of the developmental strategy of an economy. The AMPERSAND group has made a mark in school
education and contributed significantly in this aspect. Post an overwhelming success in school
education in the private sector and earning a brand value pan India, AMPERSAND group had taken over
three ADARSH schools for operation and management in association with the Punjab Education
Development Board (PEDB). They are Adarsh school, Kalewal since Sept. 2019, Adarsh school, Balad
Khurd and Adarsh school, Gandhuan since Feb 2020 (all affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi).

The AMPERSAND group, basis a gap analysis through a rigorous review of school systems and
processes, had set out a conceptual framework for Adarsh schools, ensuring delivery of quality
education to the poorer sections of society in the rural setting. First and foremost, this framework has
ensured a higher level of teacher's presence and teaching activity and approaches that are more likely to
improve learning outcomes. The class 10 board results of ADARSH Kalewal are a testimony to this fact.
Also, it's the most sought after school in the vicinity. The dissemination of sound academic practices has
necessitated the upgradation to the senior secondary level.
OUTCOME OF THE INTERVENTION
The AMPERSAND's group constant research and review of educational practices in ADARSH schools
has brought in a private school effect in academics, where previously children were not even achieving
the basic competences. The simplified use of technology in PANDEMIC times for academic intervention
has helped teachers and children do all academic-related tasks – attending online classes, discussions,
appearing in examinations, getting results and telephonic PTMs for regular feedback. There is
consistent evidence that all children participated and enjoyed learning through online platforms. The
feedback from regular PTMs has appreciated the performance of schools, like small class size, discipline,
teaching and teacher's training, attendance, English language instruction and academic feedback
mechanism. The group has ensured, even during the times of pandemic, that benefits of children like
MDM ration, books and stationery are delivered to all of them at the doorstep.

The present level of school achievement specifies:
Ÿ Increase in the enrolment level of students even during the lockdown period, which is approximately
   300 plus.
Ÿ Promoted Integrated Learning including academic and cultural activities.
Ÿ Encouraged Yoga practice among teachers as well as students through a digital platform.
Ÿ Plantation activity by class 9 and 10 students to imbibe in them the feeling of love and conservation
towards a green and clean environment.
Ÿ Conducted various online activities like Fancy dress, Role Play, Declamation, Creative Writing, etc. to
engage the students with school curriculum and to polish their skills.
Ÿ Tailor-made or self-made videos by the teachers for explanation and clarity over the concept.
Ÿ Promoted Experiential Learning among pre-primary and primary students by providing them real-life
   based learning environment.

Goals for session 2021-22
Ÿ Cleaning and levelling of the school ground for conducting various sports activities.
Ÿ Installation of Solar Panels in the school for the conservation of electricity.
Ÿ Targeted upgradation of classes up to Senior Secondary.
Ÿ Plantation of thousands of trees in the school premises by March 2021.
TESTIMONIALS
‘I, Ms. Pooja Saxena, Principal, Hubble Adarsh Sr. Sec. School, Kalewal, District Mohali (Punjab) gratefully
thank RK Foundation for equipping my school with an ERP system, which is noted to be one of the most
preferable and trusted school management software. This system has truly made the school automated
and paperless, which ultimately saves time, resources and cost.
Now, it has become easier to impart any information about students, staff, timetable, examinations,
admissions, report cards and so on. It has also helped in improving the quality of education, reaching
desired education goals within specific time and cost perimeters. We are grateful to get these training
sessions to manage the school processes efficiently and reduce the workload drastically. It has only
been possible due to the efforts of the RK Foundation that our school achieved the goal of paperless
administration. I always wish our school progress under the care and protection of the RK Foundation.’
                                                                       – Pooja Saxena, Principal, Punjab

‘Being the principal of Hubble Adarsh Sr. Sec. School, Kalewal, Punjab, running under the RK Foundation,
I’m grateful to Mr. Harish Rawal, Vice President - Academic Operations, for providing us the valuable
training session of imparting value-based education in the school. It has truly helped us to understand
that value education creates a strong relationship between students and teachers. It is essential to
define our objectives in life. It is also helpful in producing not only educated but also responsible citizens
with insightful minds who believe in giving back to the society. Education without values is like a ship
without a captain. Values are virtues that are imbibed by the children from their surroundings, the
environment in which they live. Here, the teacher plays an imperative role to ensure that values are
interwoven in all her/his lessons. She/He should always keep her/his students motivated by her/his
thoughts and inspired by her/his words and actions. Most importantly, the teacher must practise what
she/he preaches. I thank Mr. Harish Rawal for his words of wisdom and encouragement.’
                                                                       – Pooja Saxena, Principal, Punjab

‘I’m very much delighted to be an employee of Hubble Adarsh Sr. Sec. School, Kalewal, running under the
RK Foundation which has benefitted my school by providing ERP software with proper and effective
training sessions for enabling the institution to work faster and better.
As a web and mobile based interactive application, ERP connects school, students and staff to manage
the school processes efficiently. It has also proved as a boon for the teachers as it has reduced the
workload drastically. Now, we can access the student data, connect to parents, impart knowledgeable
information and school notices immediately without wasting time. I hope, in future too, we will be
benefitted from more innovative techniques to improve the level of education and functioning of the
school as well.’
                                                                   – Amanjot Kaur, Coordinator, Punjab
‘Most organisations today are implementing the ERP system. We, the teachers of Adarsh Kalewal, got a
chance to attend a fruitful training session by Mr. Dinesh and Mr. Amit on the ERP system. We have been
greatly benefitted from the ERP system because of how it so nimbly reduces the administrative burden
placed on us as a part of the teaching duties. From marking attendance to uploading report cards, a
school ERP system just takes over a variety of administrative or ancillary duties that we are often saddled
with. A school ERP system also ensures a better connection between students and teachers through
easy creation of study groups and personalised one on one communication between teacher and
student at any time.
In a nutshell, due to the implementation of the school ERP system, teachers’ burden has reduced and
they are now able to focus on the most important part of their job - teaching.’
                                                                         – Sandeep Kaur, Teacher, Punjab

‘I am Nirmaljeet Kaur, working as TGT at Hubble Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Kalewal, under RK
Foundation. I am extremely proud to be a part of this foundation. The training on value-based education
received from Mr. Harish Rawal, Vice President, Academic Operations, on December 5, 2020, was very
fruitful for me. I found noticeable differences in my teaching skills. I have started to correlate my
teaching concepts with moral values. Even I observed positive behavioural changes in my students. Sir’s
motivational words like “The aim of education is the knowledge not of facts but of values” are still
tinkling in my ears. His training session not only boosted my confidence but also enabled me to be
motivated while teaching.’
                                                                        – Nirmaljeet Kaur, Teacher, Punjab

‘I am Pooja Rani, working as a TGT at Hubble Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Kalewal, under RK
Foundation. I have been teaching for the last 13 years. RK Foundation has taken us under their wings
since 2019. The training sessions that we are getting from the Rustomjee Kerawalla Foundation are very
helpful in teaching. The training session by Mr. Harish Rawal, Vice President, Academic Operations, on
December 5, 2020, has really proved fruitful for me. It has improved my teaching skills and boosted my
confidence. I always consider this thing in mind that every child is unique and has different potential. I
come prepared for the class with different activities, and the children in my class are very happy about it. I
try to inculcate moral values while teaching different topics in the class. Teaching moral values at school
is important because moral values lead the students to decide the good and bad things in their life.
Hence, I also strive to reach students’ mind while teaching in class.
I am thankful to the organisation for organising such training sessions. I hope that the foundation
continues to work and support us like this in future.’
                                                                             – Pooja Rani, Teacher, Punjab
‘I am Ramandeep Kaur, working as TGT, Social Science, at Hubble Adarsh School, Kalewal. I feel very
blessed to be a part of this school and I really enjoyed the training we got from Mr. Harish Rawal on value-
based education. I am trying to inculcate these values among children while teaching. It has also
improved my teaching skills; now, the children get more focused on the subject. Even I am also trying to
visualise the perspective of the children through these values.’
                                                                    – Ramandeep Kaur, Teacher, Punjab

‘We, the teachers of Hubble Adarsh School, Kalewal, got a chance to attend a fruitful training session by
Mr. Harish Rawal, Vice President - Academic Operations. He gave a wonderful idea to inculcate values
among children along with education. We learnt that values are both caught and taught. Values enable
the students to logically grabble with moral life and encourage healthy brain development and growth.
Now, we are able to diligently prepare our lesson plans and other creative works to impart value-based
education to our children.
In a nutshell, we are very thankful to our resource person Mr. Harish Rawal who imparted a wonderful
knowledge of value education and its correct implementation through our lessons among students.’
                                                                        – Harpreet Kaur, Teacher, Punjab

‘I Amninder Kaur, working as a teacher at Hubble Adarsh school, Kalewal, under RK Foundation. As a
teacher, I really enjoy being with children and teaching them. RK Foundation is providing various training
sessions to the teachers, which are very fruitful for us. During this training session, Mr. Harish Rawal
motivated us with his inspirational words. He introduced different activities to improve our teaching
skills. It enabled me to inculcate values in my students’ lives.’
                                                                       – Amninder Kaur, Teacher, Punjab

‘I love my school a lot. I am here for the last nine years. I have spent a wonderful time in my school. The
main thing which I like about my school is that there are a lot of cultural activities. My favourite teacher in
this school is Mrs. Manmeet Kaur. She always encourages me and helps me to learn a lot of things. I am
proud to be part of this school.’
                                                                          – Mehak Singh, Student, Punjab

“It is a very friendly school and has a warm feel to it. The staff is very approachable, and they care about
all the children. I think there is a wide range of activities for the children; they also get a chance to
experience things outside the school. The school provides excellent care, guidance and support for
children, parents and staff; an interesting, engaging board and balanced curriculum. And strong links
with the community. Staff enable children to reach their full potential. Children learn in a safe and happy
environment. School is a warm and welcoming place for children, parents and visitors.’
                                                                      – Sandeep Sharma, Parent, Punjab
‘I think this school is very good for my child. My child’s progress is amazing; he enjoys coming to school.
My child has enjoyed seven years in this school, and this is his 8th year in school. He comes home and
talks about what he is doing throughout. He said that all the teachers are very supportive and take care
of him. Overall, my child has progressed massively in the last seven years. The teaching staff is very good
at nurturing and developing the children’s academic skills as well as social interaction and productive
play. I liked this school very much; keep it up. All the staff and management are very good. Many times,
my child has faced ups and downs in his school life and every time, the teachers have helped him. My
child has improved his reading and writing skills in this school. I am very grateful for enrolling my child in
this school. At last, I want to say that according to me, this school is the best in our area.’
                                                                            – Harinder Kaur, Parent, Punjab

‘I am so glad in making my opinion of the Hubble Adarsh School as it has been a great time for my child
Usha, who is studying here for the past 10 years. With each passing day, I have noticed a great level of
confidence in my daughter in both respects – personality development, discipline as well as in academic
skills. I am thankful to the principal, teachers and staff for the fantastic upbringing of my daughter.’
                                                                        – Simranpreet Kaur, Parent, Punjab
