We are a progressive U5 primary school catering for years 1-6 in Taradale, Hawke’s
Bay. We are seeking, from Term 4, an inspirational and vibrant principal who will lead
and continue to advance the school towards excellence, with learning and student
wellness at the heart of everything.

   Shortlisting will be completed by 14 July 2021. Successful & unsuccessful candidates will be
   notified shortly after this date.

   If required, school visits to shortlisted candidates schools will take place prior to interviews.

Interviews:
   Interviews will be held at Arthur Miller School on Saturday 24 July 2021. If you are not
   available for an interview at this time, please note this in your covering letter. The Principal
   Appointment will be confirmed as soon as is practical following the interviews and it is
   expected the Principal will be available to take up the position at the start of Term 4 2021.

SCHOOL PROFILE

Arthur Miller School is located in the Napier suburb of Taradale. It caters for students in Years
1 to 6. The present roll of 340 includes 80 Māori students. The school’s values of caring,
collaboration and curiosity underpin learning and relationships amongst students and staff.

We are small enough to be a caring, family-friendly school yet big enough to
provide diverse experiences for children. We have a multi-talented staff who share their
expertise across the school in academic, sporting and cultural areas. As well as high-quality
programmes in literacy and numeracy, we provide a conceptual based curriculum,
learning through play programme and student agency
that aims to capture students' interests in issues and
topics relevant to them and their place in the world.
Students can take up many opportunities as they move
through the school - camping, sailing, kapahaka, choir,
guitar, ukulele, gifted and talented, environmental club
and orienteering. We encourage choice.

A comprehensive range of systems and practices
supports students’ wellbeing. Transitions into and
beyond school are carefully considered. Students’
participation and achievement in a wide variety of
school and community activities are fostered and
celebrated.

Our Staff
Arthur Miller School has committed, enthusiastic and
motivated teachers who provide outstanding learning
opportunities that see our students exceed expectations in a supportive environment. We
are currently staffed by eighteen FTE permanent teachers including the Principal. Ancillary
staff includes; caretaker, contract cleaners, office manager and teacher aides.

Arthur Miller School requires a principal who can empower our vision to enable the
continued development and enrichment of our current innovative teaching approaches.
As a board, we are looking for a principal to guide, lead and inspire our strategic direction.
This needs an energetic, relational, forward-thinking leader who understands the aspirations
of parents, whānau, students and staff.

Lifestyle
Arthur Miller School is in the Art Deco centre of New Zealand - Napier. Heading down
towards the Tutaekuri River on Guppy Road in the suburb of Taradale, you will find our
school. Taradale is a ten-minute drive from downtown Napier. It’s a self-contained,
residential suburb with its own relaxed, village hub. It’s home to the Mission Estate and
Church Road Wineries, two of Hawke’s Bay’s oldest wine producers. The Mission Concert is
a local institution that has been bringing international live music acts to Taradale since 1993.
And only a further 5 minutes by car is the famous Silky Oak Chocolate Company – yum!
Napier is famous for its two kilometres of sea frontage, lined with Norfolk Island Pines first
planted in 1888, Napier’s Marine Parade offers a succession of visitor attractions set within
a landscaped stretch of grass, pathways, and gardens. Supported by a Mediterranean
climate this popular year-round destination boasts a vibrant cafe culture.
