On behalf of the Board of Education,
welcome to Wayne Township, the
M.S.D. of Wayne Township and Ben Da-
vis High School. The west side resi-
dents in Wayne Township strongly sup-
port our children and our schools. While
visiting, you will witness our Giant pride
as we paint the town purple. Our motto,

laborative efforts of our students, par-

multiple pathways for success in this
great community and our great schools.

I have always believed in the benefit of
athletics to teach valuable life lessons as
an extension of the lessons learned in
the classroom and at home. Our state Brandon Bowman Karen Burke Shirley Deckard Susan Graves

cessful student first while demonstrating
sportsmanship, dignity, and honor in
both victory and defeat. I am very proud
of our athletic staff and the support pro-
vided them by our Athletic Booster Club.
The dedication of our community has
provided our students with world–class
facilities and top-notch opportunities.
I look forward to another season of Ben
Davis Sports and am excited to have
you join us. I would like to encourage
everyone to practice good sportsman-
ship by demonstrating positive support
for all players, coaches, and officials.
We strive for the best and hope you will
have an enjoyable time at each and eve-
ry one of our sporting events.

                STAN BENGE – HEAD COACH
Coach Benge played High School basketball at Ben Davis graduating in 1972. He went on to play at Mari-
an College. He started his coaching career at Roncalli High School coaching the boys Junior Varsity team
for two years. He then returned home to Ben Davis to Coach the boy’s junior varsity team for two years.

His first stint as Ben Davis Head girls’ basketball coach started in 1985 and ended in 2011. During that
time his teams won four State titles (2000, 2001, 2009, 2010) and is one of only four girls’ basketball coaches in IHSAA
history to win four titles. From 2008 through 2011 Benge coached Ben Davis to an unprecedented run of success. The
2008-09 team finished 30-0 capturing not only the Class 4A state title, but the USA Today National Championship as
well. As a result, Benge was named the 2009 Naismith National Coach of the Year. The 2009-10 squad finished 28-0 and
won another Class 4A state title, becoming the first basketball program (boys or girls) in State history to have back-to-
back undefeated championship seasons. Benge was named the 2010 National Coach of the Year by Max Preps. The
following season, Ben Davis won 23 straight games before falling in the regional final. The program won 81 consecutive

tional championship; first in 14 years for that program. Carlisle enjoyed similar success in year one and
was fortunate enough to guide the program to its second State Runners up trophy and second trip to

In 2005 Coach Butler relocated to Indianapolis, where he immediately began working, mentoring and coaching, in the
cities Public and Charter Schools. During this time Coach Butler was able to help jump start the Athletic and Basket-
ball Program at Indianapolis Lighthouse Charter School, where he served as the Head Varsity Basketball Coach from
2014-2017. During his first season as head coach his team held a 19-4 record and Champions of the 2014-2015
ICST (Indiana Christian State Tournament). In 2017 Coach Butler accepted the offer to become the Head Varsity
Basketball Coach at Charles A. Tindley Accelerated High School where he coached for 2 seasons, winning a Sec-
tional Championship during the 2017-2018 season. Coach Butler enjoys traveling, spending time with his family and
     learning new things.

Coach Butler says he is honored to be a part of the coaching staff at Ben Davis, enjoys the family atmosphere and
respects the winning tradition of the program. I am excited about the current and future space of Ben Davis Boys
Basketball and look forward to working with the coaches, parents and community for positive growth and
development of our boys on and off the courts.

                    RICK SCHOLL–JV ASSISTANT COACH
Rick Scholl is entering his first year at Ben Davis High School bringing 18 years of basketball coaching
experience. He is from Southern Indiana and has coached with several prominent coaches such as
Jim Jones (Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame), Bruce Hensley, Joe Bradburn, and Lou Leferve.

Coach Scholl has guided two programs as varsity coach at Springs Valley High School and Rising Sun
High School. He led Rising Sun to their first ever Rivertown Championship over heavy favorite, Law-
renceburg. As an assistant coach, he has been an instrumental part of two sectional championship teams. In addition,
he has recently been an assistant basketball coach at Greenwood and Tipton high schools.

He started out coaching at the Junior Varsity level and has been in charge of organizing and implementing develop-
mental workouts and team camps for over a decade at all levels. Coach Scholl believes in servant leadership of the
student athlete. The past several seasons, he has specialized in the process of his teams being highly cohesive and
accountable by focusing on a system of stingy defense and offense fluidity.

At Ben Davis High School, Coach Scholl is an Engineering Teacher within the Career Center. He earned his degree
at Indiana State University and engineering certifications through Purdue University. Coach Scholl is married to The-
resia and has two children, Jeremy and Justin.
