Welcome to our
new Chief Executive
The GRNZ team is thrilled to welcome lecturer in marketing, communications and change
Glenda Hughes as our interim Chief management at several universities.
Executive, following Mauro’s departure GRNZ extends a warm welcome to Glenda and we
last month. look forward to her leadership in the coming months.

With the recent passing of the Racing Reform Bill,
which saw the formation of the Racing Industry
Transition Agency (RITA), and further significant
change planned including legislative impacts, our
organisation needed a strong leader who could step
in and secure the best outcome for greyhound racing.
Glenda is a natural choice for this role.
Glenda chaired the Board of the NZ Racing Board,
(now RITA) for six years and has an in depth
knowledge of our industry. In addition to this, she has
packed a huge variety of roles and interests into her
career to date.
For 18 years, Glenda was a police officer, taking on
some high profile roles such as security for Princess
Anne during her 1979 royal visit. At 37 she left the
police and moved into media, where she worked as
a talk show host on Radio Pacific, and a producer at
TV3, and then became involved in sports management.
Glenda has managed a number of high profile
sportspeople such as former All Black Tana Umaga,
Olympian swimmer, Danyon Loader and equestrian
Mark Todd. She is also a Trustee of The National Army
Museum in Waiouru.
Nowadays, as well as having taken on the interim CE
job at GRNZ, Glenda is a member of the Parole Board,
one of the founders of Pet Refuge and a trustee of
KidsCan, a charity that aims to provide food, clothing After joining the police force, Glenda fought for the

She’s For Us recorded her tidy 29.91s clock and she
ultimately was rewarded with the third placing overall.

ATTENTION ALL TRAINERS. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Massey University doctoral student, Anna Palmer, is currently
conducting a study to investigate the training, racing and
career longevity of racing greyhounds in New Zealand.

Part of this project is focusing on the current training practices
of greyhounds in preparation for racing, and during their
racing career.

In order to do this, a short survey has been designed to ask
trainers about how they train their dogs and the type of
facilities they use. All information provided by trainers will be
anonymous and confidential.

Surveys will be sent to all licensed trainers during September
2019.

Please contact Anna Palmer on a.palmer@massey.ac.nz for
more information.
