Digital SpecialistI was on a 2000 mile driving trip for what seemed like a million hours. I was listening to the radio and singing out loud, actually very loud. The song, I Won’t Last a Day Without You, by The Carpenters, came on. This song made me think about my friends at CBE. That first line: “Day after day I must face a world of strangers, Where I don’t belong, I’m not that strong “really spoke to me. You would be surprised to know how many people feel the same way. They don’t feel they have a connection to anyone or any place. A wave of sadness came over me, but I started thinking, "how nice that our CBE community is JUST such a place”! Certainly, if you listen to the song all the way through it is obviously about the love and strength one person can get from their significant other. BUT…… What about the love and strength we as a congregation can offer and receive from each other? So many people have told me that many of their closest friends are the people they met at the synagogue. CBE feels like their second home. I completely understand that now. Not only do I have the love and support from Glenn, my kids, and my grandkids, but I feel the love and support from my CBE friends and colleagues as well. There is no secret or trick to making friends. I have found that the people at CBE make it easy, just follow that Golden Rule, to have a friend, be a friend. A friend is someone you need and who needs you right back. A friend is a person who can see past our faults and who can cherish our strengths. A friend always has your back. If you are experiencing some challenges, or “When you’re smallest of dreams won’t come true...... Please do not hesitate to reach out to your friends and Clergy at CBE, we care! When you are about to explode with exciting news, again reach out and share. WE CARE. I have not had the good fortune of meeting each of you, but I look forward to that opportunity. For Beth El, the holiday season starts in two days. If you are attending services in person, walk up to someone you have not met yet and say hello. If you are taking advantage of our online access, say hello to someone new via Zoom. You never know, you may have just met a new friend. Jodi Kessler

EXPRESS ORDER FORMJOANNE’S YENTA CENTER Well it’s that time of year again-the High Holidays. I remember as a kid getting new clothes not for school but for the holidays. How I know we all miss seeing our friends we haven’t seen in a long time at services. Personally I miss being a greeter and an honorary member of the Men’s Club as the first woman usher. Hopefully next year we can be together. Let’s keep hope alive. From Kayla, Linus, and myself, I want to wish everyone a happy and HEALTHY New Year. The profile this month is of a family we don’t see often enough due to location but you know they are there just by Tim’s cowboy hat. The thought of Nikki’s desserts makes our mouths’ water and when Sierra smiles she just lights up the room. So it is my pleasure to highlight THE HARDESTYS! Nikki was born in Charleston, S.C. while her dad was stationed in the Air Force. In 1974, the family moved to Queens, NY (not Brookyn, but close enough to prove my point) and finally settled in Smithtown, NY (that’s Long Island). Nikki first moved to Louisiana and finally settled in Texas after meeting her “love at first sight” Tim on EHarmony (aww). They got married and moved to Jones Creek, Tim’s hometown, where she just fit in and they made their life. Nikki is currently a city Council Woman and has spent many years volunteering for both the City and school that Sierra attended. Sierra is the love of their lives and such a sweetheart. She always helps me hand out the HH information, is 13 years old, and studying for her Bat Mitzvah which will be in March 2022!! We know she is going to do an amazing job. She is also active in the local FFA and 4H clubs where she shows her Flemish Giant Rabbits. She is looking forward to attending services in person and joining BEFTY. The entire Hardesty family has found their home at CBE and consider their CBE friends and clergy family. Both Nikki and Sierra love participating in the Purim Schpiel every year and look forward to what wonderful ideas Cantor Waghalter comes up with. Thank you for sharing your story with our Congregation!
