Kids Yoga

Yoga for school age children provides a fun and engaging way for children to
practice mindfulness, body awareness, balance, strength and flexibility in a
non-competitive and compassionate environment. Traditional yoga poses will be
explored using child friendly language, games and traditional yoga sequencing.
In addition, yoga provides children with increased focus and the ability to work

Progress with Chess is pleased to offer three different groups specially designed
to instruct and challenge players of every skill level and experience. Students
may be graduated to the next level for their scheduled weeks upon the

Beautiful Beginning is a great way to nurture your child’s interest in the game of chess. We offer
a supportive small group setting. Students will learn the moves of the pieces, the rules and be

CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGE
Grades: K- 12
Designed for students that have tournament experience or have received prior chess instruction
and are eager to enter competition. Sessions will include one hour of interactive lessons and
one tournament game. Explore advanced tactics, strategies, checkmate patterns, endgames and
openings in a supportive small group setting. Participants will learn from analyzing their games and
those of famous masters. Two four-game tournaments. Free entry included with registration.

Beachwood Recreation Department and Progress with Chess are pleased to invite Bryden and
Hilltop students in grades 1-5 to engage in the exciting opportunity to learn and play chess safely
online!
No previous experience necessary – students start at their own level. Instruction will be provided
by Progress with Chess, a local nonprofit organization that has provided chess instruction and
tournaments for Beachwood youth for many years. Chess improves higher level thinking skills such
as memory, concentration and pattern recognition, and provides many opportunities for positive
social interaction. Sessions will include interactive lessons using Zoom and live play on

Grandmaster Gambit is open to players with USCF Online or Regular Rating over 1200. Sessions
will include a lesson from a Grandmaster! and two USCF Online Regular Rated tournament games

KNIGHTS OF THE SQUARE TABLE VIRTUAL CHESS TOURNAMENT
Grades: K- 8
“Checkmate.” The word is absolute and final; the game is over. The strong win, the weak lose
and those left standing are the Knights of the Royal Guard. Chess is an exciting battle of wits and
we invite young chess enthusiasts to join the Beachwood Recreation Chess Team. Our chess team
will compete individually and as a community in the inaugural Knights of the Square Table Virtual
Chess Tournament. Children from various communities will compete by playing 5-12 chess games
online in an arena format for 90 minutes. At the end of the tournament, scores will be totaled and
standings will be announced and prizes awarded.

CHEF’S CAMP
Chef’s Camp is offered in conjunction with Young Chefs Academy. Each day campers will
focus on a different menu. Some of the fun recipes are Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites,
Muffin Cup Pizza Rolls, Bacon Egg and Cheese Donuts, Fresh Pasta, Cake Decorating and
so much more. Attendees will come home with their finished products and the recipes for

CSI CAMP
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a crime scene investigator? In this CSI Camp campers get hands-on
experience with a variety of different techniques. Led by Beachwood Police Office Jamey Appell campers will learn about
fingerprints, how to investigate a crime scene, look for, collect and package evidence, search a crime scene and more. Officer
Appell serves as Beachwood’s Community Engagement Officer, Master Criminal Investigator, Master Evidence Technician and
teaches at the Cleveland Heights Police Academy. This camp is full of fun and mystery. LIMITED AVAILABILITY!

CHALLENGER SPORTS BRITISH SOCCER CAMPS
Your child deserves the most popular soccer camp in the country. Staffed by a team of British
Experts, Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp will not only help your child learn how to dribble,
shoot and pass the ball, but they will also share lessons on Respect, Responsibility, Integrity,

CHALLENGER SOCCER FULL DAY CAMP
Ages: 8 - 18 years
A more advanced camp for players looking for a more competitive training environment. The Full
Day Camp will follow the Half Day Camp syllabus in the morning and will then focus on game-
related techniques, tactical development, skills testing and coached match play in the afternoon.
The first session of each day will place emphasis on skill development and mastery of core
techniques through individual, small group practices and coached games.

This is our most popular camp program and will feature individual skill development core

will also spend time learning about respect, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership.

Ages: 3 - 5 years
This innovative program, created by childcare specialists, introduces children to the very basic
skills of soccer in a fun, progressive and caring manner. Tiny Tykes activities will include running,
turning, stopping, jumping, kicking, throwing and catching. Each day we will aim to help improve
balance, agility, coordination, social skills and cognitive ability. Your child’s confidence and
enthusiasm for the game will grow during our fun soccer challenges! Parent involvement is always
welcomed!

At Snapology we believe that children are meant to learn
through play. When children are engaged in interactive,
hands-on learning activities, their creativity flourishes and
they show an increased interest in school. We help your
child grow up with a thirst for knowledge. How do we do it? Snapology engages children using
LEGO® bricks, K’Nex and technology. While the kids are having fun with familiar toys, laptops and

Creative contraption warning! This is a camp designed by you – the inventor! Each day campers

camp! Kids become the ruler of their own world by learning to control mobs and creatures and
learning to change, customize and edit their tools and weapons. Kids learn how to code with
a block-based visual programming language inside MinecraftEdu, using if-then and while-do
statements, variables and loops. With these STEM tools, they automate processes inside Minecraft
rather than just play Minecraft. Redstone is used to create circuits, switches and to control objects.

Come prepared to have fun as you put together tonight’s dinner, with all
of the ingredients included. You will learn the best way to safely chop your
veggies and herbs, and the best knives to use. This recipe packs a healthy
punch with low-fat cheeses, eggplant, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, and
fresh herbs. It is every bit as delicious as traditional lasagna, without all the
carbs. Bring a small and medium mixing bowl, spoon, apron and a mask.

Here is a simple and easy recipe to make when you are in a time crunch or just need something
quick for dinner. In this hands-on class, you will use healthy ingredients like brown rice and low-fat

Woodworking
Kurt Klimko is a professional woodworker with more than 20 years of experience as a
craftsman, artisan and teacher. Kurt’s woodworking classes have been featured on WZIV’s
“Applause”, Cleveland Magazine, and in the Plain Dealer.
REQUIRED WOODWORKING SAFETY WOOD SHOP USE REVIEW
All new adult woodworking students are required to attend this free introduction to woodworking
where your instructor will review safety and security issues, proper use of machines, appropriate
projects and expectations for care of the wood shop equipment and tools.

Our instructor will take you through your project, step by step using the variety of woodworking

Roll up your sleeves and build your own classic Adirondack chair. You will learn how to build it
