Dear Parents / Caregivers, Hiwinui School
Week 2 - Term 3
                      5th August 2021
                    2020202018
Dear Parents / Caregivers,

Thank you to all those who attended our Parent / Teacher / Child Learning
Conferences this week. We understand that not everyone could make Monday
or Tuesday so we are available to make an alternative time for you if required.
Either call Debbie at the office or email your child’s classroom teacher.
We are keen to receive feedback re the use of the Skool Loop booking system.
From a school point of view it has saved many hours of work for Debbie in the
office, however like everything, it has to work for our families as well. We
encourage you to send your feedback to office@hiwinui.school.nz or through the
Skool Loop app itself. Thank you.

The weather has been superb and while I don’t want to jinx it the school would
love extra Board Games for when the students have to spend playtimes and
lunchtimes inside. If you have games which your children no longer want, or
have grown out of, could you please send them to school. Staff will sort out the
appropriate year group for the games. ‘The Y’ would appreciate them for their
Before and After School Programme as well.

It was my pleasure early this morning to accompany Lochlan and Logan to the
Manawatu District Council Chambers to present their ‘thank you’ to the Council
for supporting them to travel to and from the National AgriKids Grand Final in
Christchurch. The boys represented us extremely well and Counsellor Shane
Casey complimented them on their presentation. The boys really enjoyed the
Grand Final experience and although they found the challenge quite difficult, we
were very proud of their achievement placing 13th out of 27. Thank you to the
parents for accompanying them and making it possible.

Hearing & Vision Screening at School Tomorrow
Vision and Hearing Technicians from MidCentral District Health will be coming
to school tomorrow to screen the following children:
New Entrants who have not had or completed their B4 School Check; Year 7
students (distance vision); Year 8 students not previously screened as Year 7s;
and any children who have no previous screening record. If any parent/guardian
does not wish their child to be checked could they please let Debbie know.

Dear Parents / Caregivers, Hiwinui School
Calling All Parents for our next Parent Forum:
‘PARENTING WITH STRENGTHS’ - Wednesday 18th August
At the beginning of the year Staff had the privilege of working with Megan
Bryce on a programme called Strength Finders. We are now thrilled to be able
to hold a Forum for all parents and caregivers in The Leigh Centre where Megan
will focus on “Parenting with Strengths”. A wonderful guest speaker who will
support you as a parent; this will include you finding out about your own
strengths, along with helping you spot talents in your child and supporting them
to be comfortable and proud of their talents.
Everyone welcome to join us in The Leigh Centre at 7.30pm. Save the date.

  Hiwinui School Writing & Art Showcase – Term 1 and 2 – 2021
We were really proud to present a variety of incredible writing and beautiful
artwork in booklet format last Friday. This is just a small showcase of what our
wonderful students are producing. While we could only produce 1 copy per
family we hope that you enjoyed our first edition as the intention is to put out
another one at the end of the year. Thanks to Pou Portia for the collation of
this booklet.

                             … NETBALL DRAW …
YEARS 5 - 6 Sat 7th August 10.30am Roslyn Silver Ferns Ct 2

NUGGETS Mon 9th August 6.05pm St Peters Int. B Ct 2
The Hiwinui Nuggets had a 34-13 win over Feilding Intermediate Manaaki. Our player of
the day was Bella Smout for her defence – great use of her outside arm, fantastic intercepts
and, at GK, being a strong last line of defence for the team.

A reminder that we have two netball teams entered in the KAINUI NETBALL
TOURNAMENT next Tuesday. The games begin at 10am and the players
should be back at school by the beginning of the school’s afternoon
programme. Players do need to bring warm clothes as it can get very
cold at Vautier Park. The teams will leave school shortly after 9.15am.
