Established in 1988 by Craig Willson in Australia’s historic Langhorne Creek, Bremerton is now led by
Craig’s daughters Rebecca, winemaker, and Lucy, marketing manager. The estate’s wines have a house
style that is extremely gourmande, demanding a second (or third) glass, regardless of cuvée, varietal or
colour! For the past 11 years Bremerton have been awarded the James Halliday 5 star winery rating,
ranking them in the top 5% of all Australian wineries.

In 1974 Capel Vale was the first winery in Western Australia to own and establish vineyards in the cool
climate regions of Margaret River, Mount Barker and Geographe. Original winemaker and owners Dr Peter
and Elizabeth Pratten produced the first vintage in 1980 handing responsibility to son Simon in the mid
2000s. They are still a family-owned and -managed winery, producing wines with regional distinction and
                              respect for their pristine environment.

The Lloyd family have been making wines in McLaren Vale since 1968; Mark Lloyd has now handed over
the winemaking reins to his son, Duncan. Though well known for introducing to Australia a range of varietals
                                           with a distinctly Italian emphasis, Coriole’s bedrock is in the strength of its outstanding Shiraz plantings;
indeed the Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is one of McLaren Vale’s greatest. The estate has started the process of
organic certification, having farmed organically for many years.

Australian slang for left-hander, Mollydooker was created in 2006. Sited in Australia’s McLaren Vale, the
house style is one of plush, concentrated, fruit-driven wines which retain beautiful balancing freshness. That
the estate has been awarded just about every accolade possible over the years is testament to their desire
to relentlessly push the boundaries, but also to embrace the McLaren Vale terroir and coax it to its fullest.

Central Otago is the world’s most southerly wine-producing region, Until recently a sleepy colonial town, today Martinborough is
experiencing a more extreme climate than New Zealand’s other producing world class wines to critical acclaim with a reputation that
areas. The summers are hot and dry, and the winters crisp and far exceeds the region’s output - just one per cent of New Zealand’s

The Cluver family have owned the De Rust farm since 1896, becoming the very first winery in Elgin in 1986.
A cool climate winegrowing region, Elgin is most suited to aromatic varietals such as Riesling, Pinot Noir,
Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Andries Burger lives and breathes his terroir, letting the quality
of his fruit do the talking. Such gentle, subtly persuasive wines with fine minerality and poise are hard to
come by, yet at Paul Cluver they are to be found in abundance.

Atlantic, while others bask in sun in the flatter hinterland. Old bush vines and vast swathes of terroir lend

and ambition. Attention to detail and perfectionist standards have elevated DeMorgenzon’s reputation
since Hylton and Wendy Appelbaum’s acquisition of the estate in 2003. Adam Mason is now Cellar Master,

The concept of Ernie Els Wines was born out of friendship between Ernie Els and Jean Engelbrecht back in
1999. The pair combined Jean’s knowledge of the world wine markets with Ernie’s impeccable worldwide
acclaim and reputation, to full effect. Winemaker Louis Strydom often describes his Stellenbosch harvest as the
one chance he gets every year to produce something truly memorable. With a raft of awards and ratings behind
him, he has remained as consistent and focused as the estate’s namesake himself.

Bijou, feminine, pure and expressive; Catherine Marshall is a wonderful winemaker in the cool climes of
Elgin, and her wines are all of these things. There is a natural, unforced feel in her wines, the stars of
which are most certainly her exceptional Pinot Noirs. Terroir-led and brimming with delicate, refreshing fruit
flavours, Cathy’s wines are a triumph of South Africa’s garagiste movement.

Few estates in the Cape can revel in as much history or prestige as that of Rust en Vrede – for over 300
years it has stood peacefully amongst the vineyards of Stellenbosch. Producing only red wines, the estate
focuses on Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Famously, Nelson Mandela selected Rust en Vrede to be
poured at his Nobel Peace Prize dinner in 1994. See also Donkiesbaai, p22; Guardian Peak, p24, and
