   MYER FASHIONS ON THE FIELD IS THE ULTIMATE
   STYLE CONTEST AND AN ICONIC FIXTURE OF
   THE MELBOURNE CUP CARNIVAL.

   The competition was first staged in 1962 in a bid to attract
   more women to the male dominated racecourse and has since
   established its place as Australia’s largest and most prestigious
   outdoor fashion event, attracting media attention and celebrity
   judges from around the globe.

   Myer Fashions on the Field is a spectacle that excites and
   inspires. It’s where catwalk flair meets imaginative racewear
   and at its core, remains a celebration of fashion and racing.

EMERGING
                                       DESIGNER
                                         AWARD
In 2005 the Victoria Racing Club introduced the Design Award
to recognise the contribution designers have made to fashion
at Flemington.

Now in its second year, the Victoria Racing Club in conjunction
with Myer has re-focused the award to uncover emerging
designers and provide them a chance to showcase their creations,
encouraging outstanding design talent and excellence within the
Australian fashion industry.

The award is now known as the Emerging Designer Award.

To be eligible to enter the Emerging Designer Award applicants
must adhere to the following:
• Must be 18 years of age or more.
• Not have any current commercial arrangements or
  relationships with retail stores (with the exception of
  small boutiques at the VRC’s discretion).
• Not be a previous winner of the Design Award.

The Emerging Designer Award will be held on
Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 5th November 2019

AWARD
PRIZE POOL
       The 2019 Myer Fashions on the Field Emerging Designer
       Award winner will receive:

          yer Internship; a 6 week placement experiencing areas
         such as Buying for International & Australian Designers,
         Marketing, PR, Events & Sponsorship and Social Media
         & Digital Platforms.

       y M
          yer Editorial; a photoshoot presenting up to four looks
         to feature on the Myer Instagram account, as well as the
         Victoria Racing Club Instagram account.

       y M
           yer Windows; the opportunity to present a capsule collection
          in the Myer Bourke Street Mall Windows.*

       y $6,000 Myer gift card.

       y A
          fashion feature in VRC’s Inside Headquarters Magazine
         valued at $2,850 (circulation 30,000+).

       y A TCL TV package valued $2,248.

          1,200 Sofitel Melbourne On Collins accommodation
         for two (2) nights in a classic king room.

       y $1,000 Antler luggage voucher.

SELECTION
                                                            CRITERIA

Creativity
A unique design that showcases an imaginative and
innovative look unlike anything ever seen in this fashion
category. Colour, texture, cut and the inclusion of accessories
will all form part of the judging criteria in this section.

Excellence in Manufacturing
Skill demonstrated across design, technique and craft of
construction, showing an eye for every detail.

Design Vision
The ideation behind the submission is a critical part of the
design process and our judges will be getting underneath
the development process and vision. Getting to know how
the designer thinks, plans and brings their creations to life is
just as important to our judges as the creations themselves.

Judges
A panel of high profile industry professionals have
been engaged to select the Top 10 designers to present
a design on stage at the 2019 Myer Fashion on the
Field Emerging Designer Award. These judges will
be announced at a later date.

SUBMISSION
PROCESS  Portfolio
         To register for the 2019 Myer Fashions on the Field Emerging           REGISTER
         Designer Award applicants are required to submit a portfolio            HERE!
         prior to 5.00pm Friday 6th September 2019.

         The portfolio should be one (1) PDF document and must include:

         y O
            verview; outlining your design vision, your background
           including schooling and/or experience and any personal
           and/or design highlights.

         y Lookbook; a suite of images showcasing your work.

         y Media; PR and media received (if applicable).

         y Digital; links mapping to your website and/or social media
            platforms (if applicable).

         The judges will review all entries and select ten finalists who will
         be invited by the Victoria Racing Club and Myer to present a design
         at the 2019 Myer Fashions on the Field Emerging Designer Award
         on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 5th November 2019.

         All applicants will be contacted via email by Friday 13th September
         2019 to notify them of the outcome of their application.

2019 EMERGING DESIGNER
                                              AWARD WINNER – KATE WATTS
                                                     OF ONLY ONE ASHLEY
Tell us about your background in design and what motivated you to enter the Emerging
Designer Award.
I have followed FOTF for as long as I can remember and the Designer competition. In fact watching
the whole spring racing carnival on TV captivated me at a very young age. Spring racing fashion just
excites me and really ignites a passion to design. I launched ‘only one ashley’ in January 2015 and
submitted my application for the design award in 2016 and 2017 unsuccessfully. This only made
me more determined in 2018 and with the announcement of the Myer element to the prize, I was so
driven to be on that stage.

How did it feel when you were announced as the winner of the 2018 Emerging
Designer Award?
I was speechless and still am really, it was everything I dreamed of. I was overwhelmed with emotion
when they announced me as the winner, that I actually can’t remember much. My focus up until
that moment was all about my entry outfit and getting every element from earrings to shoes perfect.
Wanting something so much, really keeps you up at night.

You have recently had some exciting developments as a result of winning the 2018
Emerging Designer Award, can you share this news?
I do have exciting news and I can share that only one ashley will be available in select Myer stores
in September.

What’s your plan for the next 12months?
The only one ashley spring collection will be shot in August and the Myer social team
is currently busy with working on the concept. This will be followed by the only one ashley window
display in Bourke st Mall Myer store, in October. That will be a real pinch me moment I think.

What advice do you have for anyone entering the 2019 Emerging Designer Award?
Be different but not crazy in your design, start a trend don’t follow one. Be new be unique
and think of every single part of your design, from top to toe.
