Relevant priorities for cross-border economic From the programme:
development and innovation in 2014-2020 "In order to implement the objectives in the area of innovation, it
has been agreed that five sectors play a key role in the program area:
Agrobusiness & Food
Health & Life Sciences
High Tech Systems & Materials (HTSM)
Logistics
Energy & low-carbon economy
A "strategic initiative" has been developed for each of these sectors
Priorities
by experts from business, science and the authorities. The strategic
initiative is a document with the main challenges, developments and
cross-border opportunities in the individual sectors. In addition,
qualitative criteria are formulated which the projects must fulfill.
The Strategic Initiatives provide the framework for all projects
carried out in the respective sector."
Specific objectives of the programme -Increase in the product and process innovations in sectors relevant
for the border region
-Increase in product and process innovations in the field of CO2
reduction and sustainable energy
-Reducing the barrier effect of the border for citizens and
institutions

Relevant priorities for cross-border economic According to the OP of the region, the regional economies are reliant
development and innovation in 2014-2020 on SMEs that represent a wide variety of blue and green sectors,
with a prominent role for maritime sectors, tourism, forest economy
and food production. Also, The potential of cooperative networks
between the area’s knowledge-intensive services and
researchintensive industries, the availability of businesses investing
in and promoting clean, energy efficient technologies, and the
untapped resource of tertiary education graduates are exemplary
assets shared by the SBP regions that may be better deployed for the
prosperity of blue and green economy sectors. At the same time, the
South Baltic regions show considerable disparities in socioeconomic
characteristics, exemplified by urban-rural and west-east divides in
the economic attainment of the SME sector, innovation capacity,
demographic, migration and labour market trends or mobility
patterns that need to be addressed by cross-border joint actions.
Priorities
And these issues are at the core of the strategic intervention of the
programme.
Specific objectives of the programme -Increase the presence of blue and green sector SMEs from the
South Baltic area on international markets through joint cross-
border actions
-Improve the transfer of innovation for the benefit of blue and green
sector SMEs through joint cross-border actions
-Increased development of the South Baltic area’s natural and
cultural heritage assets into sustainable tourist destinations
-Increased use of green technologies in order to decrease the
pollution discharges in the South Baltic area
-Improve the quality and environmental sustainability of transport
services in the South Baltic area
-Increase the share of skilled labour force working in blue and green
economy sectors of the South Baltic area through joint cross-border
actions
-Improve the cooperation capacity of local South Baltic area actors
through participation in cross-border networks
