Credit cards alleviate the need for instant
gratification by allowing consumers to spend
money they don’t actually have. When
purchasing on credit one tends to focus purely
on the benefit to justify the purchase. When
purchasing with cash, one focuses purely on the
cost and are far more cautious.
If you were to purchase a case of wine using
cash, each bottle you uncork will feel free
allowing you to truly enjoy each sip without the
worry of any outstanding debt. This doesn’t
apply to making the same purchase on credit
because, emotionally, we associate each sip
with the money we still owe.
There are, of course, certain situations where
credit is the only option especially on large ticket
purchases such as a house or car. However,
day-to-day living expenses should be funded
solely by using cash which is also a helpful way
of preventing overspending.
