        Gingerbread House
             Contest
Start the blue prints for your house now and enter to win the Gingerbread House
Contest!! Enter as a family, individual child, or adult to win a great prize. This is a chance
to bring the family together and spend quality time in the kitchen and let your
imagination take over.

Free to register! Entries must be delivered to Liberty Park’s Convention
Hall (1500 West 3rd Street) on Thursday, December 11 or Friday,
December 12 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. No need to pre-register;
registration taken when entry is delivered.

Entries will be on display and judged at Convention Hall. Winners will be
announced Monday, December 15 by via phone– Winners will also be
posted on our Facebook page.

Categories and Overall Prizes:
 Family - 1st Place - $50.00 Movie gift card
 Kids (age 17 & younger) - 1st Place - $50.00 Wal-Mart gift card
 Adult (age 18 & up) - 1st Place - $50.00 Restaurant of your choice gift card
 Entries & registration forms must be delivered to Liberty Park’s Convention Hall (located at 1500
   West 3rd Street) on Thursday, December 11 or Friday, December 12 between 8:30am – 5:00pm.
 Houses must be picked up from Liberty Convention Hall by Tuesday, December 16th before 5:00
   pm. Any houses left after this deadline will become property of the Sedalia Parks and Recreation
   Department.
 Entries will be on display and judged at the Convention Hall. Winners will be announced and
   contacted by phone on Monday, December 15.
Official Contest Rules
    Entries must be made entirely of edible materials with exception of the base.
    Entries must be original creations, do not use store-bought gingerbread houses or gingerbread
     house kits, please.
    Entries must incorporate the holiday or seasonal theme.
    One entry per household.
Judging Information
    Judging will be based on the following categories with a maximum of 10 points in each category: overall
     appearance, originality, creativity, difficulty, skill and adherence to the official contest rules.
    Judging will be held on Saturday. December 13 at the Breakfast with the Claus’.
    Winners will be notified by 12:00 pm Monday, Dec. 15.
    The decisions of the judges are final.

Holiday Gingerbread House
                    Contest Rules
1. One Gingerbread House per participant/group.
2. Group entries are allowed.
3. Gingerbread House kits are NOT allowed to be used by ANY participant.
4. All Gingerbread Houses must be placed on a board base not exceeding 18
  X 18”. We suggest using ½ or ¾ inch plywood as your base. Cardboard
  bases are acceptable.
5. Please include your name and Gingerbread House title on the bottom of
  the base.
6. All Gingerbread House entries must be in the form of a house.
7. No artificial materials, such as Styrofoam, are to be used to construct or
  decorate the house.
8. All Gingerbread Houses must be 100% edible, except the base board and
  candy wrappers. Non-edible support structure material other than the
  baseboard may not be used.
9. Non-edible decorations, like paint, ribbon, figurines, etc…may be used
  ONLY to decorate your base.
10.A list of materials used to create your Gingerbread House along with a ti-
  tle and brief description should be submitted with your entry.

  Difficulty
  Creativity and Originality
  Technique and Skill

 Entries must be delivered to Convention Hall (1500 W. 3rd, Sedalia, MO) on
  Thursday, December 11 or Friday, December 12 between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00
         p.m. Winners will be announced and contacted by phone on
                          Monday, December 15.
Gingerbread House Contest
Royal Icing Recipe I
Ingredients:
     3 cups confectioners’ sugar
     ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
     2 eggs whites, beaten
Directions:
In a bowl, sift together confectioners’ sugar and cream of tartar. Using electric mixer, beat in 2 beaten egg whites for about 5
minutes or until mixture is thick enough to hold its shape.

                                             Royal Icing Recipe II
Ingredients:
    3 tablespoons meringue powder
    4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
    6 tablespoons water
Directions:
Beat all ingredients at low speed for 7 to 10 minutes, or until icing forms stiff peaks. Tip: Keep icing covered with a wet kitchen
towel at all times. Icing can dry out quickly.
