There is a long history of discrimination1 and violence2 against black
Americans. Some people think that racism3 is in the past. Unfortunately,
the reality is different. Black people and other minority groups 4 are still not

On May 25, a black man named George Floyd was killed by a white police

men and women. People everywhere are saying, “enough is enough 12!”

Coronavirus Vocabulary Remember!

                         People are all connected in
a social web. If we get sick,

                         people sick, too. This creates
a cluster of sick people and
                         can start a pandemic.

May 12th
Everyone is getting crazy these days.
Some people have self-restraint; others
are playing. I’m swearing at those people
that I can’t forgive. Some people have
badly damaged cars. A little while ago, I
was self-restraining, but what happened
to everyone?

May 19th
The coronavirus finally settled down in
Tokyo. It seems that the result of self-
restraint has come out, but I felt it was
late. But it’s good that it’s settled. I would
like to keep staying at home quietly. I’ll be
careful.

May 26th
I had school today. Everyone in class
that I met after a long time seemed to
have changed, and it felt strange. We
were divided into odd and even numbers,
but I was glad that I could learn. The
class time will change from half a day to
a full day, but I would like to gradually
get used to it.

As a student, English was my favorite subject. I
don’t remember exactly why but I think it was
because analyzing words and sentences was easier
for me than studying numbers or remembering
dates. Back then, I would have never imagined that
I would be an English teacher.
I came to Japan eight years ago. I chose the
Gunma area because I prefer to be close to nature.
Not to mention, most of the people I know in
