background
and purpose
E-commerce continues to grow. It now accounts for around 14% of total global
retail sales (averaged across all categories and markets) and is set to grow to
23% by 2023.

E-commerce has some major players, the biggest being Amazon and Alibaba.
With a global community of more than 100 million Prime members Amazon is
now entering more and more European markets (most recently Sweden).
Nonetheless, e-commerce is not about simply
buying the same products through a different
channel. It allows transactions to take place in
very different ways and ultimately changes the
way that we buy products. And the digital
environment reduces the “cost of entry” for
new brands so allows new players to emerge
all the time, creating even greater choice and
an ever-changing marketplace.
We know that you know this, and we know you
want to know you market share – and so we
have listened to you!
Thus, we are proud to introduce Ipsos
eTRACK. With a subscription to our new
syndicated e-commerce tracker, you will be
able to monitor the growth in e-commerce in
general, as well as in the product categories of
your interest, understand how shoppers buy
online and why. Which channels work the best
and how are the products being delivered. All
this and much more every month…

Share of e-Commerce vs. traditional

We continuously track whether the general
population buy more or less online compared
to traditional retail sales.
e-Commerce market shares by brands
and product categories
A key part of the Ipsos eTRACK is to monitor
the e-commerce development across product
categories, including the money spent online
per category. Further, we ask the brands and
the amount spend per brand online. Thus,
you will know you e-commerce market
shares!
Channel usage, performance and
delivery
Finally, we are tracking which websites are
used the most – from Amazon to the local
small specialised shop. The overall satisfaction
with the shopping experience including the
means of getting the purchased product (e.g.
through delivery).

Under most of these 20+ main categories, we have multiple sub-categories
(e.g. Smartphones within the main category Consumer Electronics). For
both main and sub-categories every week the number of categories will
expand as more and more consumers add their purchases to the ever-
growing list of products purchased online.
And for the (most) categories, you will know your market share in
terms of your brand share and money spent on your brand!
