MR. JEAN-YVES LE DRIAN
FRENCH MINISTER FOR EUROPE & FOREIGN AFFAIRS
                  A COMMON VISION
In the space of just three editions, Bonjour India has gar-
nered recognition as a vital event in the relation that unites
our two countries, and as a highlight in India’s cultural life.
Through this event, France and India have shown that, in an ever more inter-
dependent world, political relations cannot do economic and social dynam-
ics. without people-to-people contacts, interactions and dialogue between our
societies. We are thus strengthening our strategic partnership and making it
long-lasting, marked by trust, mutual esteem and friendship. In France, as
in India, cooperation and cultural action have evolved and their perspectives
adapted with a shared goal: working together, strengthened by our differences
and convinced that they express complementary viewpoints, capable of en-
riching each other. By intensifying the reciprocal attractiveness of our two
countries, this way of seeing and acting is beneficial for both France and In-
dia. Beyond the bilateral horizon, we have concretely shown how cooperation
between States and peoples in the twentieth century is indispensable to meet
the challenges of our century, be they climatic, environmental, economic, or
related to our collective security. Because the digital revolution and the ten-
sions at work in the world have ushered in a new era of international rela-
tions and diplomacy: all areas of human activity are today interconnected in
a vast whole structured by networking and the immediacy of digital com-
munication. We have never been so close, and, paradoxically, so vulnerable to
the lack of understanding. The contemporary world needs this Indo-French
team spirit, each respecting the other, both striving for the same goal. I am
therefore delighted with this new edition of Bonjour India, being held at
the very time when the ties between our two In the space of just three edi-
tions, Bonjour India has garnered countries are growing, when France and
India are major and view each other as such. This event gives us an occa-
sion to celebrate our friendship, consolidate a partnership that is enduring,
responsible and beneficial for our respective economic and social dynamics.

HIS EXCELLENCY MR. ALEXANDRE ZIEGLER
                 AMBASSADOR OF FRANCE TO INDIA
                 A PARTNERSHIP OF HEARTS

In its third edition, Bonjour India lies at the very heart of
the cooperation between our two countries. Neither France, nor India is suf-
ficiently known for what they truly are: lands of innovation and creativity
endowed with a rich historic and cultural heritage, and imbued with a spirit of
initiative and oriented towards the future. A bearer of modernity and values
that France wishes to share with India, the third edition is dedicated to inno-
vation, creativity and partnerships focusing on three main aspects: Smart Cit-
izen, High Mobility, and Go Green. It is Bonjour India’s ambition to embrace
India in all its diversity and extraordinary dynamism through one hundred
projects presented in thirty-five cities. These projects are all based on Indo-
French partnerships, or their ability to develop them. Some have an approach
that is relatively new in India: heritage as a source for generating employ-
ment and wealth, dance as an integrator of technological or social innova-
tion, water as a subject of transdisciplinary practices and deliberations, the
Smart City as a new challenge for citizens, culture as a pillar of the economy,
virtual reality as a tool for creative production... The list goes on. Everything
has been conceived to help us steam ahead. Because this edition of Bonjour
India is oriented towards the youth, a substantial part is dedicated to educa-
tion, higher studies and research. Thus, the very first Indo-French forum in
this field will be organized in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII). At the core of Bonjour India, The Experience, A Journey with
France will trace the substantive nature of Indo-French relations yesterday, to-
day and tomorrow. With the aim of further augmenting France’s contribution
to India’s development, adhering to its Make in India policy, a special Bon-
jour India programme has been conceived to enable professionals to have less
formal but equally indispensable interactions with each other. Now that our
relationship has expanded in trust, substance and scope, Bonjour India of-

Ella Maillart spent five years of her life (1940-1945), in the south of In-
dia in the company of sages Ramana Maharshi and Atmananda Krish-
na Menon. Beyond her extraordinary destiny, Ella Maillart embodies
not only ideals of liberty, autonomy, equality, and creativity but also the
courage of a woman. Her rejection of social and gender norms actu-
ally makes her a contemporary icon that needs to be brought to the fore.

                  - For kids and young adults -

The Water Princess is a fairy tale for young minds. It tells the tale
of an angry princess, who wishes to leave the Earth, upset with all
the waste and misuse of water. But what will Earth do without wa-
ter? So starts an adventure of three clowns who try to find ways to
please her. Whether they succeed or fail is what the tale is about !
                       About Nisha Theater
Theatre Nisha was founded in 2000 with the aim of producing scripts
that reflect social issues, however, not in the sense of preaching a sacrosanct
resolution, but as a medium of speaking the truth. Over the past 17 years, we
have created a niche audience for ourselves and dealt with genres ranging
from Indian mythology to ‘in-her-face’. They believe that theatre is a way of
life that lends to creativity, self-expression and exploration, and to this ef-
fect have worked with several schools, colleges and corporate organizations.

This version is not a fairy tale, but
a Princess’s tale. A Princess born in
the suburbs of Liverpool. In a king-

where you are better off in a gang
than alone and where the spin-

here, in this castle.’’ This story gave Colette Garringan, the artis-

Linking digital and performing arts, Adrien Mondot and Claire
Bardainne create an intimate artistic experience with the human be-
ing at the heart of technology, and the body at the heart of images.
With customized digital tools, the performance explores a digi-
tal field that is alive: mobile, handcrafted, ephemeral and sensitive.
A 40mins solo piece set to choreography with an Indian dancer, the
performance will transpire in the immersive environment of a moving
cube to explore the fleeting nature of dreams and the fugacity of life.
The dancer meets images and creates a poetic space between dream and
reality in the form of haikus.

 SOJOURN AS ARTIST’S VIRTUAL STUDIO
                        [ State Art Gallery ]

As a tourist one sees a country as a spectator. As a resi-
dent one inserts himself into the invisible folds of for-
eign realities. While art appreciation and market is more
related to national context and international mobility
of artworks, what does the physical displacement mean to
the artists themselves? While artistic sensibility is rather
universal across the globe, which often forms a global
community of artists, the path travelled by the individ-
ual artist in real time and space does bring in new ele-
ments in terms of visual information, properties and lan-
guage, methodology, techniques and the ways of seeing.
 About the artists:
Participating artists are the Krishnakriti Fellows who have at-
tended the École Nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and
the École supérieure d’Art et de Design Marseille-Méditerrannée
in Marseille for a full academic year since the fellowship was in-
stituted by the French Embassy and Kalakriti Foundation in 2008.
The curatorial line puts in sync the contemporaneity of their recent
works with the experience and memory of their sojourn in France.

                    THE WEIGHT OF JOY
                          by Eric LANGUET
                        [ Ravindra Bharathi ]
The Weight of Joy is a dance project around
the notion of handicap and social innovation.
French choreographer Eric Languet’s work
with disabled dancers has set a benchmark.
Joy is not a blissful happiness restricted to idi-
ots, or a denial of reality. Rather the opposite,
«since joy assumes both finitude, barbarism
and evil, setting up before the outbursts of
violence its silent power, recalling the perfec-
tion of which man is capable» (Nicolas Go).
The Weight of Joy is collaboration between European dancers,
Indian dancers and deaf dancers. We will draw from the friction of
these different cultures in an attempt to discover the foundation and
the conditions for the emergence of joy, be it individual or collective.
On the borders of movement, text and music, this joyful and chaotic
play will reconcile ourselves with the human species and all its ironies.
THE CHOREOGRAPHER /
ÉRIC LANGUET
He opened the way for the Compagnie Danses en l’R,
that he founded in 1998 in Reunion Island :the one of
a human dance in society, staging the individual and
his difficulties, through their most simple aspect, the
mouvement. His conception of beauty and his working
methods will continue to evolve thanks to two essential
             encounters : with Lloyd Newson.

shaping the next few years roadmap for bilateral cooperation be-
