 Editor – IEEE Malaysia Newsletter

Foreword From 2019 IEEE Malaysia Section Chair

On behalf of the newly elected executive committee members, I welcome you to the
first edition of IEEE Malaysia Section Newsletter for 2019. As in the previous years,
we plan to have quarterly newsletters to report activities under IEEE either by
Section, Chapters, Affinity Groups and Student Branches. This year, apart from
reporting local activities, we are also looking to publish technical articles in the
newsletter. For this, we welcome contributions from all IEEE members. IEEE Malaysia
Section has been one of the most active sections in Region 10 in terms of activities
conducted for members. It is our goal to continue to be active and informative, and
we hope that continuous exposure of our activities will not only benefit the
members, but also attract new members to IEEE. We hope you enjoy our
 newsletters.

 Chair, IEEE Malaysia

Hydraulic Ram Pump for Clean Water in
                  Rural Area
MySIGHT Rural Technology is an IEEE SIGHT group
formed by IEEE members from Razak Faculty of
  Technology and Informatics, Universiti Teknologi
Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Campus. The group
received USD21,700 from IEEE HAC for the project
Hydraulic Ram Pump for Clean Water in Rural Area
to the isolated community of aboriginal Jahai tribe in
Kg. Sg. Tiang, Royal Belum National Park, Perak.
The community which consists of 40 houses has to
rely on Temenggor lake and Tiang river for their daily
water consumption. MySIGHT Rural Technology is
helping them to get clean water by building the
hydraulic ram pump taken at the nearest upstream
river source located about 2 km away from their
village. This is a one year project commencing in
September 2018. The group has designed, built and
tested the ram pump in Razak Faculty, UTM Kuala
  Lumpur Campus. The construction and
commissioning will be carried out on 15-18th April and
will be carried out by volunteers from UTM students The ram pump is ready to be installed in Kg Sg. Tiang,

honored and grateful that the Perbadanan Kemajuan
Negeri Perak is sponsoring this coming trip by
providing the boat house to accommodate 30
volunteers and barge to carry the materials for the
  ram pump.
