              SUNDAY 22nd AUGUST 2021
                The Twelfth Sunday after Trinity

               Almighty and everlasting God,
you are always more ready to hear than we to pray
and to give more than either we desire or deserve:
pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy,
forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid
and giving us those good things
which we are not worthy to ask
but through the merits and mediation
of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Covid 19 Update
Last week's update was inaccurate in one point and gave
insufficient information on others - for which, apologies.
PASSE-SANITAIRE
In order to obtain a Passe-Sanitaire, you need to present of one of the following:
    • Vaccination certificate(s)
    • Negative result of a PCR test (within the last 72 hours)
    • Evidence of having recovered from Covid (for at least 11 days and less
than 6 months), as valid proof of recovery
Each of these certificates is encoded and signed in the form of a QR Code. It can
be presented in paper form or digitally (e.g. on a smartphone).
Since August 9, 2021, the Passe-Sanitaire is compulsory to access certain places,
establishments or events, indoors or outdoors, without any notion of gauge, such
as cinemas, museums, cafes, restaurants, hospitals, retirement homes, medico-
social establishments (except in emergencies). Also for long-distance journeys by
interregional public transport.
The Passe-Sanitaire is NOT needed for attending Church services.
Wearing the mask
In places where the medical pass is required, wearing a mask is no longer
compulsory for people with the pass. However, the organizer, the operator,
as well as the prefect have the possibility of making it compulsory.
Advice - always have your mask available to wear if requested.

Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy
in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
 and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord. AMEN

                                        5
BARBECUE or BARBEQUE

The “barbeque” spelling reportedly came to be, thanks to the
French phrase barbe à queue, which means “whiskers to
tail” and describes the process of roasting an entire pig.

Please let William and Liz know if you intend to join in (and how many of you)!

Time for a Hymn

                     'When morning gilds the skies'.

This hymn, with more verses, originated in Germany around 1828 and was
translated into English in 1864 by one Edward Caswall, the son of the vicar
of Yately in Hampshire.

You can singalong with a choir on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT7Kh88CrL4

                     When morning gilds the skies,
                       My heart awaking cries,
                     'May Jesus Christ be praised!'
                       Alike at work or prayer
                           To Jesus I repair:
                     'May Jesus Christ be praised!'

                     2. Does sadness fill my mind?
                            A solace here I find,
                      'May Jesus Christ be praised!'
                        Or fades my earthly bliss?
                         My comfort still is this,
                       'May Jesus Christ be praised!

3 Be this, while life is mine,
                            My canticle divine,
                      'May Jesus Christ be praised!'
                          Be this the eternal song
                         Through all the ages long,
                       'May Jesus Christ be praised.

A message from Ann White
I was overwhelmed when I received the generous gift that you have given me - thank
you so very much. Once I eventually move into my new home, hopefully sometime
next month, there will be many things that I will need to get so it is much appreciated
and will be put to very good use. In the meantime I am relaxing in a beautiful spot in
the middle of the Downs near Newbury, seeing the family, getting to know the latest
addition and (not so good) reacquainting myself with driving on English roads. I shall
not forget you all, and the many happy years I spent in France and I continue to pray
for the Chaplaincy and its future ministry.
