Accelerated learning at a flexible pace
The Nanyang Business School’s Nanyang Professional
MBA (PMBA) offers a full MBA experience in a unique
part-time format tailored for accomplished
professionals. Current Nanyang PMBA participant
Kenneth Koh and recent Nanyang PMBA graduate Leng
Ying Jun share their experiences of the programme.

his work commitments. “As a working professional, the flexible arrangement
and central campus in Novena are convenient. I do not need to rush for a lesson
after a long day at work. Also, I do not need to rush through every module and
can focus better compared to attending lessons on weekday evenings.”
In terms of the curriculum, “I particularly enjoyed the Leading People Globally module, which focuses on people skills
such as negotiation techniques, cultural intelligence and talent management,” says Kenneth. “The Strategy Projects
at Nanyang (SPAN) module is also unique, providing hands-on experience assisting a sponsor company on a real-life
consulting project.”
As a member of his firm’s senior management, Kenneth has been able to share his new knowledge with his
management team and apply it to the day-to-day operations. He aims to use what he learns on the programme “to
become a more competent leader and lead my firm to greater heights.”
Ying Jun began the Nanyang PMBA programme just as she was
transiting to a new job. “Besides covering topics related to my role,
the programme gave me a more holistic understanding of how the
work that I do relates to the organisation as a whole. Soft-skill such
as negotiation and culture enabled me to bridge the gap in a new
workplace faster.”
The arrangement of the modules allowed Ying Jun to effectively build
on the concepts and deepen her understanding. The alternate weekend
schedule also allowed time for an exchange programme. “My two-
week stint at Peking University was certainly a highlight.”
Another highlight was SPAN. “My group was fortunate to have a project
that was in a totally different industry from ours. It enabled us to deep

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS | POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION
Since establishing our first MBA partnership with the University of Nottingham in 1999, PSB Academy has
developed an inclusive and conducive environment where executives can advance their management skill sets
and professional connections, while studying toward qualifications at the master’s and doctorate levels.
Navigate complexity in today’s business world through thought leadership and specialisation in areas such as
business management, data analytics, and cyber security.
VALUE-ADDED SUPPORT
Striving to provide quality postgraduate education beyond the classroom, we aim to provide our students with as
much industry exposure as possible, with activities such as overseas study tours, guest lectures, industry visits, and
networking opportunities with alumni to enrich the student life and learning as much as possible beyond the
classroom.
ONLINE LEARNING SUPPORT
For the health and safety of our students, we have enabled live streaming of lessons and virtual interaction with
classmates through online learning platforms. As Singapore enters into Phase 2 of Safe Transition, we will increase
on-campus activities progressively and do this in a calibrated and safe manner.

Why choose SMU Juris Doctor programme?
“ As an undergraduate, I was actively involved in CCAs. But my lifestyle as a JD
student was different. I had more financial responsibilities and external activities. I
spent much less time in school. Looking back, it would have been a pity had I
focused only on studying. Fortunately, I discovered international moots. That
sparked my interest in advocacy. It gave me the confidence as a young lawyer to be
lead counsel in several tax litigation cases.
Did I specialise in tax law because of my accounting background? Yes, and no. Many
tax lawyers do not have an accounting background. It is not necessary. But I have
found it useful. I am able to integrate commercial and financial information with the
legal submission. I have created financial models based on legal principles and
negotiated settlements with insights gained from sensitivity analyses. That said,
accountancy is not the only other useful subject to know as a lawyer. My JD
classmates came from a diverse range of backgrounds. All of us have done well in our
own ways. Some even chose not to practice law after graduating. We are more open
minded and adventurous that way, having experienced the world in a different light.
