Welcome to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
at the University of Arkansas!
OLLI at the University of Arkansas was established in 2007. It is one of 123 Osher
Lifelong Learning Institutes across the United States, and is the only OLLI in
the state of Arkansas. These lifelong learning programs are partially funded
through the Bernard Osher Foundation and each is dedicated to providing non-
credit courses and continuing education opportunities to adults. OLLI has NO
academic prerequisites or age restrictions and is designed for adults who want
to continue learning in their retirement years.
Our Mission and Values
The mission of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas (U
of A) is to provide a community of adults with a lifelong learning venue that promotes
intellectual and cultural growth through exploration and discussion via diverse, high
quality and affordable educational programs.
High Quality Programs and Engaging Courses
The OLLI curriculum committee annually develops hundreds of stimulating
courses in a variety of fascinating topic areas. Programs range from one time
lectures, tours, workshops and day hikes to eight-week seminars or study groups.
Courses are engaging, innovative, lively, hands on, informative and are offered in
a variety of settings. There are no prerequisites required, no tests or exams and no
age restrictions. OLLI courses provide the ideal environment for learning.
Exceptional Instructors
Along with university professors and other educators, those who facilitate OLLI
courses include experienced professionals, passionate hobbyists, researchers and
distinguished scholars. OLLI instructors are there both to educate and to engage,
and they love sharing their knowledge, expertise and fascinating stories.
Special Events and Programs
In addition to regular courses, OLLI members enjoy the opportunity to engage in
monthly social and cultural events, special programs, book clubs, special interest
groups, and much more. These special programs provide an opportunity to take
the discussion outside the classroom, to meet new people, and to engage in
unique experiences only offered through our institute.

Osher Institutes are volunteer driven organizations! Our volunteers and committees are vital
to the success, quality and sustainability of the institute’s programs. Your time, talents, and
resources are valuable and provide needed support. Volunteers are recogonized at the annual
College of Education and Health Professions Honors Convocation and throughout the year in
the OLLI newsletter.
Volunteers are needed for the following:
OLLI Course Ambassadors OLLI classes are held at various venues across the
region making it difficult for our small staff to be at each location. Volunteering as a Course
Ambassador is a great way to help our staff provide a quality experience for students and
instructors. Course Ambassadors assist with signing in participants, introducing the instructors,
and making program announcements. No skills or training are needed. All information needed
to be a successful course ambassador will be provided to you and available at each classroom
location. If you register and attend an OLLI program course consider being a course ambassador!
OLLI Committee Member OLLI committees are the driving force behind our
institute’s high quality courses, diverse membership and fun, unique programs. Currently the
institute has four standing committees that need more volunteers:
CURRICULUM- This committee takes all the credit for shaping and developing the
annual list of courses. Members of this committee meet monthly to discuss ideas for
course topics and recruit instructors for facilitating the programs. If you have an idea
for an OLLI course, this is the group that can make it happen!
MEMBERSHIP- This committee has the opportunity to build a diverse and fun
community of learners. Members of this committee meet monthly to develop
and discuss ideas for outreach opportunities. They also assist in implementing
marketing strategies to promote OLLI program and membership benefits.
SOCIAL- The social committee is a group that enjoys having fun and meeting new
people. They meet monthly to come up with new and fun ways for OLLI members Education

ADVISORY COUNCIL- The Advisory Council represents the membership of OLLI and
assures coordination and strategic direction for OLLI. Working closely with the OLLI Education from a top public
director and staff, the council establishes long-range plans and goals for the institute research university at an
exceptional value
and ensures that programs are created to accomplish them. This group advises on
policies, procedures, and guidelines for the program with the oversight of the OLLI
director and the Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions.
OLLI Van Drivers OLLI is expanding its out and about programs with more
day trips, tours and hikes. We will be taking participants to local and regional venues
and need volunteers to drive passenger vans on these exciting and fun adventures.
