About us
GRIMM’S is a family driven and sustainably managed manufacturer,
producing safe and high quality toys at the foot of the Swabian
Alb in Germany.
The headquarters staff in Hochdorf, Germany does all the design
work, the surface finish and treatment, assembly, quality control,
packing and shipping worldwide.
The roots of the firm GRIMM’S Spiel und Holz Design began more
than 40 years ago - in 1978. In August 2006, the company formerly
known as Spiel und Holz Design became GRIMM’S Spiel und Holz
Design under new ownership.
Our intent is to design toys, whose simple and reduced design
together with beautiful coloring and inviting surface feel are well
suited for all ages – products that are played with over and over
again.
We have a small workshop in house but most of the Woodworking
is outsourced to a few independent shops in Europe only.
The owner of the largest one among them learned his wood-working
skills at our company over many years before he founded his
own company in his country.
For many products, assembly and packaging is done successfully
in cooperation with sheltered workshops in Germany.
After receipt of the raw products, we inspect for quality and
complete the remaining production steps here in Germany.
We are certified in accordance with
the ISO 9001:2008 quality standard
as well as the FSC™ standard.
All colors and oils we use are
certified in accordance with the
EN 71 and CPSIA/ASTM 963 standards.

Quality and Safety
All of our products including the color and oil meet the European
standard for safety of toys (EN71) and the US standards.
This is regularly tested. Likewise, all our products are labeled
with the appropriate warning and age recommendations.
All of our products are hand-made.
We use alder, lime, beech and maple wood.
We are certified according to the FSC™ standard: the
wood is only from sustainable forestry sources in
Europe.
Because wood is a natural material it always has
various markings that show up in our products,
making each one unique. These unique variations are
proof of quality, not defects.
We only varnish our wood with color and oil. We use
non-toxic water based color stain or a non-toxic plant
based oil finish. All colors and oils we use are certified
Made by Nature in accordance with the EN 71 and CPSIA/ASTM 963
standards.

Our Natural Beads Grasper is made of three types of wood.
Little explorers will have sensory experiences with light and
dark, hard and soft, heavy and light, structured and smooth
wood.
The colors of our beads are from non-toxic, water based
stains which are absolutely harmless and tested in-depth
for color fastness to saliva.
Did you know? Natural unpainted wood has an open, rough
surface that binds moisture. And on this dry surface,

Dollhouse Families
All dolls from this page and the previous one are manufactured
in Europe using traditional handwork techniques.
The loving faces are painted by hand, giving each a doll a
unique expression. Only certified Oeko-Tex Standard 100
cotton fabrics are used. The stuffing is soft polyester. The
arms and legs have sewn-in wire, so the dolls are poseable.
Our dolls prefer gentle hand washing. Please wash the faces
carefully. The colors on the face are waterproof, but can 20020 20030

"Our Grimm’s Rainbow has been in our family for ten years. It started as nursery decor, then it became a stacking
and color sorting toy. Now our rainbow lives together with a lot of complements in our playroom, where it sets
the stage for countless hours of imaginary play. My little one is sorting, counting and balancing. My middle child
spends her time setting up beautiful patterns with the contrasting colors. She marries the sets together beautifully,
creating new opportunities to play. My oldest child spends hours to balance, sculpt, and make marble runs.

The circular nature of the seasons and the various occasions during the
months are vividly portrayed in our Annual Ring in keeping with Maria
Montessori’s observations about how to best help children learn. Green
shades represent spring, yellow for summer, red for autumn, and blue for
winter.
Each of the twelve segments of the annual ring represents one month
(dark blue represents January, purple represents December.) Each week
(for example, each Monday) a candle or marble is moved one hole along the ring.
A figure of our selected figures for each month (03050) can be placed in the inside
hole and the bowl in the middle of the circle can hold all the treasures gathered during the
month, including items children collect on their walks through nature, a birthday gift, a large
candle... just to name a few.
Experience On the Circular Disc for Year Calendar the Annual Ring (03000) can be placed centrally. For each
day a marble will be placed on the ring, starting at the current month. At the end of the month you
