I am so excited to be writing this Messenger article. It means that enough things are beginning to happen
again around Pritchard that we need to tell you about them. A great deal of work has been going on while we have
been quarantined and now you are going to get to see the results of that work. You will find in the body of this
Messenger several new and exciting proposals for the Fall. The Covid-19 scare forced us to do some things
differently. Several of our committees have made some changes in programing based on what we have
experienced. We are not back to normal yet, and there will be a new normal when we are. We are hopeful that
what we are proposing is going to increase our participation here at Pritchard and allow us to reach many new
people in our community.
You have all been hearing about Overflow, our Saturday evening worship that begins in September. Many of
you have committed to serve on our Legacy Teams. They are already at work getting ready to minister to those
who come. The gym has undergone a transformation that is preparing it to act as our Overflow Worship Center.
You are going to be so excited when you see those results.
New and exciting programing is being introduced for Pritchard Kids and Pritchard Youth. Sherry and Brack have
been working hard to develop the kind of programming that will encourage our children and youth and motivate
them to invite their friends to come. Will it be different than we have done before? Yes, it will. Will it be at different
times than we have experienced it before? Yes, it will. Will it encourage a new level of enthusiasm from participants
and leaders? YES, IT WILL.
You will also see that we have new programming for adults. Our midweek Bible Study and Prayer Time is
undergoing a transformation. The Christian Education Committee has done a marvelous job of creating
something that fits the population who have faithfully attended Wednesday nights. It is another effort to grow our
participation and meet all ages of Pritchard’s discipleship needs. We will not be approaching the Fall believing we
will be experiencing the same old, same old! I believe you are going to enthusiastically embrace the “NEW” coming
your way.
I don’t want to miss the opportunity to tell you, my Pritchard family, how grateful I am for your faithfulness
during this time. You have proven again your love for our Lord and your commitment to the church. Your prayers
and your financial support have sustained us during this time. Under the leadership of our Administrator, Doug
Burkhart, we were able to cut expenses to a bare minimum. Because of your faithful giving, we have been able to
support our ministry partners at 100% of what we had pledged to them. We have continued to be able to prepare
for Overflow and the other new programs coming in the Fall. Even though we were not able to meet in person, we
have still been the church that this community has desperately needed. I have always known you were special! You
have just given me one more confirmation of that fact. I love you and appreciate your dedication to our Lord and
His Church!

Pritchard Family,
This season of COVID-19 and "social distancing," has been
very difficult for many. I know it has been for me! May we shift
that focus from "social" distancing to "physical" distancing. Our
mental and emotional health are so important and we need
each other, socially, perhaps now more than ever! My prayer is
that we all find safe ways to remain social during these times. If
you know any youth or college-aged students who are seeking
a community to connect with, please give them my contact
info. I would love to connect with them and introduce them to
our amazing Pritchard Family.*
During the month of June we began our Fun Days weekly on
Tuesdays and they have been a blast! We will continue those
Fun Days through the month of July. We will also host one
outdoor family event, which will be a movie night in the
Pritchard Courtyard. Be on the lookout for the movie TBA!
I pray that each of us can continue encouraging one
another during these times, whether it be via Zoom or other
creative ways of physically distancing, "Not neglecting to
meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one
another, and all the more..." (Hebrews 10:25)
During our events for Pritchard youth and college-aged
students, we will practice the guidelines set forth by the
health department and our church, but we do remind each
participant that they participate at their own risk. Waivers
are provided to each participant prior to participation in our
summer events. Thank you for your understanding!
Blessings,
Rev. Brack Ballard

good and the bad relationships in our lives. Some
relationships are for a season, while others are lifelong.
There will be relationships in our lives that help in areas of
wisdom, growth, and support as they journey life together.
Pivotal Circumstances – The same for relationships is true
for life circumstances. There are exciting times in our lives
that will make an impact: graduations, new jobs, marriage,
having children/grandchildren, retirement, etc. There are
also times in life that make a different kind of impact: loss of
job, loss of a family member or friend, tragic experience, etc.
All FIVE of these examples can help BUILD our faith as we
grow as Disciples of Christ, and with that in mind, the
Christian Education Committee has planned fervently for Fall
2020 to LIVE IN THE MISSION of our church’s vision

transformative studies and spiritual formation. To do this we

Guide to the Blue Ridge Parkway by Victoria Logue
The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. While not officially a national
park, it is part of the National Park System. Every year, since 1946, the Parkway has been the most visited part of the NPS.
The Parkway travels for 469 Miles from The Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Cherokee Indian Reservation in
NC. The Parkway travels along some of the highest ridges and mountains in North Carolina and is known for its incredible
scenic views and overlooks. The highest point is located near Waynesville, NC at Milepost 431 where the elevation is 6,053
feet. (917.55)
