spring. Both networks have some very promising series that could
end up on your “Appointment Viewing” calendar!
Global, on the other hand is still chasing that elusive comedic hit.
CITY TV is resting on its laurels with it’s current schedule but are
adding one new reality show: a world wide talent competition.

Trying not to be seen through the Cheers filter, this
show features a multi faceted cast and is filmed
outdoors which presents many challenges. Does it
come close to the bar Cheers set? NO!
SYNOPSIS:
The oddball cast of characters that hang out at Abby’s believe everyone
needs a bar to call home. Theirs just happens to be an unlicensed watering
hole in Abby’s backyard, where the drinks are cheap and the laughs abound.
But what really makes this place so special is Abby. She’s a tough cookie
with no time for nonsense. She doesn’t allow cellphones, earning a seat at
the bar takes time, and losing a challenge means drinking a limey, sugary,
non-beer cocktail -- and her regulars wouldn’t have it any other way.

With The Goldbergs as a lead in should provide this
show with some lift however it has too far to go to
survive. Misses the mark!
SYNOPSIS:
Set in the 1990s at the same William Penn Academy formerly attended by
The Goldbergs, Schooled follows Head of School John Glascott as he leads
a faculty of teachers with wildly different views on how to mentor students.
By his side stands his tough-as-nails sister, Lucy, who joined his staff to
enroll her teenage daughters Felicia and Gigi as new students. Glascott’s
nurturing and communicative approach to caring for children is particularly
at odds with coach Mellor’s tough-guy belief that physical competition
brings out the best in students.

Widely known for her role in Dexter, Jennifer Carpenter
is a huge draw in this highly anticipated
thriller. The storyline is unique, well cast, fast paced,
and very realistic.
SYNOPSIS:
Erica Shepherd is a brilliant former CIA operative, now known as the most
notorious traitor in American history, serving a life sentence in a Supermax
prison. Against every fiber of his being but with nowhere else to turn, FBI
Agent Will Keaton enlists Shepherd to help track down a fiercely dangerous
and elusive criminal she knows all too well. For Keaton, it’s not easy to
trust the woman who cost him so much. While Shepherd and Keaton have
different motivations for bringing the enemy to justice, they both know that
to catch a spy, they must think like one.…

SYNOPSIS:
Attorney and author Marcia Clark co-writes and executive produces a new
legal drama about Maya Travis, a Los Angeles district attorney who suffers a
devastating defeat when prosecuting an A-list actor for double murder. With
her high-profile career derailed, she decides she needs a change and flees
for a quieter life in Washington. Eight years later, when this same celebrity
comes under suspicion for another murder, Maya Travis finds herself lured
back to the DA’s office for another chance at justice.

With such a diverse cast having various backgrounds
and circumstances, this show will have something for
everyone to relate to. However, tough competition
from shows like New Amsterdam and The Rookie may

Welcome to The Village, an apartment building in Brooklyn that appears
like any other from the outside - but is quite unique inside. The people who
reside here have built a bonded family of friends and neighbors. Sarah’s a
nurse and single mom raising a creative teen; Gabe’s a young law student,
who just got a much older and unexpected roommate; Ava must secure
the future of her young, U.S.-born son when ICE comes knocking; Nick’s a
veteran, who’s just returned from war; and the heart and soul of the building,
Ron and Patricia, have captivating tales all their own. These are the hopeful,
heartwarming, and challenging stories of life that prove family is everything,
even if it’s the one you make with the people around you.

Despite their silly code names, the two show leads are
a dynamic duo with a palpable chemistry between
them.
SYNOPSIS: Lots of laughter and explosions should please the most
discerning of viewers.
Whiskey Cavalier is a high-octane, hour-long action dramedy that follows
the adventures of tough but tender FBI super-agent Will Chase, (codename:
“Whiskey Cavalier”), played by Scott Foley. Following an emotional break-
up, Chase is assigned to work with badass CIA operative Francesca “Frankie”
Trowbridge (codename: “Fiery Tribune”), played by Lauren Cohan. Together,
they lead an inter-agency team of flawed, funny, and heroic spies who
periodically save the world (and each other) while navigating the rocky roads
of friendship, romance, and office politics.

A gritty, eight episode series with an interesting plot
twist. Excellent cast infused with intrigue, drama,
tragedy, and realism – what’s not to like!
SYNOPSIS:
The Red Line is a drama that follows the lives of three vastly different
Chicago families whose stories of loss and tragedy intersect in the wake of
the mistaken shooting of an African American doctor by a white cop. As the
stories of the Calder, Young, and Evans families crisscross and converge,
a message of hope appears: it’s possible to emerge from tragedy stronger,
and it’s important to come together, not just to survive, but to thrive.

premier of this grand daddy of all talent shows
SYNOPSIS:
The World’s Best is a first-of-its-kind global talent competition that features
acts from every genre imaginable, from every corner of the planet, from
two of the most prolific unscripted executive producers in television: Mark
Burnett and Mike Darnell. They not only have to impress American judges,
but will also need to break through the “wall of the world,” featuring 50 of
the world’s most accomplished experts from every field of entertainment.
Only one act will ultimately be crowned The World’s Best.

Viewers either find this show really funny or the worst
show ever. No grey areas here. The local people of PEI
are not impressed with the inaccuracies and absurdities
of local traditions while those “ from away” find it
SYNOPSIS: hilarious.
From the minds of Picnicface comedy troupe founders Mark Little and
Andrew Bush, along with Garry Campbell (Kim’s Convenience), Bush and
Little star as two bickering brothers who return to their PEI hometown to
take care of their grumpy and ailing father, only to collide with the eccentric
townsfolk and their even stranger superstitions.

CBC is surprising viewers with this drama originally
from the UK and like that it is shot in Toronto.
The first episode revealed a few stereotypes but there
was enough intrigue and good chemistry between
SYNOPSIS: characters to keep viewers tuned in.
A procedural drama created for television by Morwyn Brebner ( Saving
Hope), this show is based on the best-selling book series by M.R. Hall. The
series follows Jenny Cooper, a former ER doctor and newly appointed
coroner, as she investigates suspicious deaths. Suffering from anxiety and
recently widowed with a teenage son, Jenny is a woman of action driven by
an intense desire for the truth.

Another quality production from CBC. The Toronto
born lead actress has solid experience having acted
in Heartland, Being Erica, NCIS, and Haven and does
the tenacious and complex character proud. Unique
SYNOPSIS: story line and impressive cast will ensure this show will
resonate with Canadians.
A legal drama created by Floyd Kane (Across the Line) and set in the gritty
arena of legal aid, this show focuses on Marcie Diggs, a star corporate law-
yer who reconsiders her priorities after her beloved aunt commits suicide
following a malicious prosecution. Landing at a legal aid office in Dartmouth,
Marcie is driven by one thing: to never again allow innocent lives to be de-
stroyed by the justice system. Diggstown is the first original Canadian drama
series featuring a black female lead character.

This family drama with procedural overtones is infused
with Netflix cash and will benefit from the draw of lead
actor Billy Baldwin. Canadians love to see shows filmed
on their turf and this won’t disappoint.
SYNOPSIS:
After the death of his wife Sarah, John, a Search & Rescue officer, packs up
his three children and moves from their hectic urban life to a small northern
town, where they all struggle with their new surroundings, new friends, and
accepting Sarah’s death.

SYNOPSIS:
The iconic character-driven legal drama has been rebooted with both fa-
miliar faces and new characters, and a focus on how the law is practised in
Canada by presenting, including contemporary themes and issues. Bring-
ing Street Legal into the 21st century, we pick up 25 years later with Olivia
Novak, now a named partner at a major Bay Street law firm.

violence, leaving behind her three young children. At the announcement of
the diagnosis with hereditary potential, the old life of Anemone, unknown to
all her relatives, comes to haunt her again.

wide variety of segments featuring fascinating artists from every milieu. On
the agenda: interviews with key figures on the arts scene, reports on great
moments in pop culture, and speed dating with up-and-comers.

There was already big buzz when the show aired on
Illico and has already renewed for a second season.
SYNOPSIS:
Detective Sergeant Victor Lessard, along with his colourful partner Jacinthe
Taillon, investigate the deaths of a man and woman found with their necks
pierced by what appears to be a Mediaeval instrument of torture. This
hour-long, 10-episode thriller touches on themes of building an identity,
reconstructing memories, and fulfilling a craving for honour. The series is
an adaptation of the successful novel Je me souviens by Mart in Michaud,
hailed by critics as a “master of Quebec thrillers.”

Julia is back in Quebec after a tragic event, having spent 10 years in the
United States. To put it behind her, the teen focuses on her passion for go-
kart racing. To deal with rivalries between other drivers on her new team,
she’ll have to show bravery and determination. While Julia is at home on
the racetrack, she has a hard time fitting in socially. But with the support of
Émilie, her friend and next door neighbour, she’ll overcome her difficulties,
and maybe even find love.

Various segments covering a variety of issued and topics complement the
interviews. The revelations are often surprising.

Each week, a comedian takes the control of four evenings. He invites his
favorites comedian to join him: discoveries, friends, relieves ... He decides,
he is the boss! You will laugh with what they do best: stand-up!
In total, six comedians will join the host of the week.

informative glimpse inside their obscure world.

SYNOPSIS:

firefighters. Watch as they search for victims, carry out confined space
rescues, provide emergency care, and all the while work in extreme
temperatures. Will they succeed in becoming tomorrow’s firemen? Tune in
to find out.

Two flags: The host is unknown to the French viewers,

obstacle course while avoiding objects hurled at them by their
competitors. The one with the fastest time wins the $ 50,000 cash prize.

Usually US programming on V do well. This might be
the exception. Given that the show did not do very well
in English, we anticipate that it will not do any better in
French.
SYNOPSIS:
Six talented young lawyers are put to the test, both personally and
professionally, as their lives intersect inside and outside the most prestigious
trial court in the United States.

37M’ENTENDS-TU?

BUZZ
This series has been the all the rage for the spring TV
season. It may not attract a lot of viewers, which is
a shame as this is probably one of the best series on
TéléQuébec this year.
SYNOPSIS:
M’entends-tu? plunges us into the everyday life of three friends from a
disadvantaged background. Each in their own way, and facing their difficult
reality, Ada, Fabiola, and Carolanne try to navigate their lives despite difficult
family situations and a lack of education. In search of freedom, love, and
redemption, they transport us to a world little depicted on the small screen.
Despite the difficulties, they remain strong with an outstanding sense of

SYNOPSIS:
After success of the Montreal series, Kebec sketches a living portrait of
Quebec by exploring its socio-cultural background and the traces left by
some of its most outstanding artists. In total, it covers twenty themes such
as family, the St-Lawrence river, the art of cooking, the forest, the health,
etc. Each time, a major cultural work of our history (a film, a song, a book,
etc.) serves as a gateway to broaching the theme, on the pretext that it’s a
reflection of society at a very particular moment.
