  Discipleship calls us to more than membership; it calls us to an active stewardship. In
    order to support its mission, the Church needs every family's active stewardship.

To help you discern which ministries your family members may want to help with, we have
      come up with a key that identifies which age groups can help in each ministry:

Welcoming New Parishioners

Goals and Purpose: To connect with new parishioners and welcome them into the
parish family! Provide new parishioner with helpful information, encouragement,
and a friendly face as they make St. John’s their home. Volunteers visit new
parishioners with either a gift bag (provided by the parish) or a home-baked good.
Time Commitment: 10-20 minutes to visit our new parishioners, generally 2-3
times a year

Prepare / Serve Meals for Wednesday Night Faith Formation

Goals and Purpose: Provide supper for our 6th-12th grade students every week.
They come hungry, and it's our job to feed them physically so they are ready to be
fed spiritually. Responsibilities include cooking the meal, serving the food, and
cleaning up after. A budget is provided to help with the cost if needed.
Time Commitment: One or more Wednesday evenings between Sept-April.
 Meals are served at 7:00pm.

Parish Picnic (Summer)

Goals and Purpose: This ministry plans the annual picnic for the parish family to
gather for food, family, and fun. Help is needed to set up, cook and serve food,
run the games and activities, and clean up.

Trunk or Treat (October)

Goals and Purpose: To provide an event for the children of our parish to
celebrate All Saints Day. Help is needed to plan and run the event as well as
decorating trunks and handing out treats.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours on the day of the event

Parish Dinner (December)

Goals and Purpose: We gather on the feast of St. John the Evangelist,
 December 27th, to celebrate as a parish family. Help is needed to arrange for
invitations, food, music, decorating, clean-up, etc.
Time Commitment: Time needed to make arrangements varies. A few hours
before the event to set up, the event usually lasts 2+ hours.

Altar Society Member

Goals and Purpose: Responsible for taking care of the Altar and Sanctuary and

funerals & receptions for sacramental celebrations.

Funeral Vigil Reception (Donate Cookies or Serve)

following all Funeral vigils for the family to visit with their guests. Stewards are

    parish events or hospitality weekends after Mass. We hope to make everyone
    feel welcomed and cared for when they are here at St. John’s.

    Donate Salad/Desserts for Funeral Dinner

    Goals and Purpose: Funeral dinners are a vital ministry provided by the Altar
    Society for the family and friends of the deceased. The Altar Society relies on
    stewards to provide various salads and desserts for the funeral dinners.

    Prepare or Serve at Funeral Dinner

    Set up and Take Down Tables

Goals and Purpose: This council is active in parish events, sponsors athletic
programs, Religious Ed, and Totus Tuus, donates to missions and parishioners in
need, and provides maintenance for parish facilities as needed. All Catholic men

    40 Hours of Adoration

    Goals and Purpose: To foster devotion for the Eucharist in Adoration of the
    Blessed Sacrament. A great way to spend time in prayer with the Lord.
    Time Commitment: 1 hour a week between 8:00am Monday through midnight on
    Tuesday, or as a substitute to be contacted when needed.

    Sacristan
    Coordinator: Lynn Robertson

    Goals and Purpose: Sacristans prepare the sanctuary before Masses and other
    liturgies, place liturgical objects to be used and assist the priests and liturgical
    ministers as needed in preparation for Mass. Some Mass Sacristans help with
    Sunday and weekday Masses as well as funerals, weddings, and special
     liturgies.
    Time Commitment: 30-45 minutes at each Mass you’re scheduled at.

    Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

    Goals and Purpose: The honor and special privilege of the EMHC is to assist the
    celebrant in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. Diocesan

Goals and Purpose: To proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word
at Mass. Lectors process in with the Gospel, proclaim the 1st and 2nd readings,
and lead the general intercessions.
Time Commitment: One weekend Mass once or twice a month, time spent
practicing the readings during the week

Ushers / Mass Greeters

Celebration.

Rosary Leader Before Mass

Sunday Mass. A parishioner is needed to lead the prayers of the Rosary for the

Instrumentalist

Goals and Purpose: Cantors are called to minister to the people gathered at
Mass by inspiring them, through music, to celebrate Christ’s life, death, and
resurrection. This includes leading the hymns and acclamations and singing the
psalms at Mass.

Overnight Prayer Vigil

Goals and Purpose: To pray for the Soul of our fellow parishioner after their
death. We keep vigil in in the church in prayer with their body after the rosary and
leading to the funeral.

 Goals and Purpose: This ministry serves our youngest parishioners by offering
 them a place to play and gather at church while their older siblings or parents are
 in Sunday Faith Formation classes. Stewards in this ministry lead play with the
 children and watch for their safety.

 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)

 Goals and Purpose: CGS is rooted in the Bible and Liturgy of the Church for ages
 3 and up. Catechists provide hands-on materials that assist the child to grow in
 love of the Good Shepherd. Training is available for those interested in becoming

 materials.

goal is to help every young person to encounter Jesus Christ. The faith is handed

catechism program held in the summer from 9am-3pm and 7pm-9pm.

supervision during the program.

 deposit. Discretion, confidentiality, and accountability are necessary to

Wednesday at your available time of day.

Church Flower Committee

Goals and Purpose: Adorn the altar where Jesus is with beautiful plants from His
earth. Each week a member of the Flower Committee is tasked with updating the
flowers for the Sunday Masses.

Church Cleaning

Goals and Purpose: A unique opportunity to love God and neighbor. Just as you
feel ownership of your own home when you take care of it, the feeling of 'home'
is ever so present when you are within the quiet church doing your part to help
keep it beautiful and inviting. Stewards work in teams of 2 to clean the
Sanctuary, Sacristy, vestibule, bathroom & loft. Cleaning instructions and all
cleaning supplies are provided for your convenience.
Time Commitment: You typically only have this opportunity to clean a few times
a year. When it is your turn, you can come anytime after Friday at 9 am and you
need to be done by Saturday at 4 pm. It typically takes 2 hours.

General Maintenance

maintenance or landscaping projects, deep cleaning of the parish center, etc.

The Lord’s Diner

Goals and Purpose: A not-for-profit soup kitchen in Wichita that provides an
evening meal to those in need, no questions asked.. Volunteers help serve food,
bus tables, wash dishes, serve families, and clean up afterwards.
Time Commitment: 2nd Monday of the month, 5:30-7:30pm. Volunteers are
required to take an online class to obtain a food handlers card and an orientation
before volunteering.

Goals and Purpose: Provide a fresh or frozen meal to help long-term caregivers,

Home Visitation Teams

Visit Nursing Homes
Visit Nursing Homes Coordinator: Kelly Belton

Goals and Purpose: Children and adults visit the Clearwater nursing homes as a
group and perform piano solos, sing songs, tell jokes, recite poetry, and
 distribute pictures they have colored for the residents. We hope to bring Christ
into the lives of the residents through a joyful presence and by sharing our
talents.
Time Commitment: We hopefully await a time when we can resume regular visits
without fear of health risks.

Pro-Life / Respect Life Issues

Goals and Purpose: To renew our knowledge about pro-life thought and work
and engage in thoughtful conversation and pro-life efforts. Sponsoring events,
especially during Respect Life Month in October, and cooperating with the
Diocesan Respect Life and Social Justice Office in defending the right to life and
human dignity of the unborn, elderly, and disabled.
