What is a value?

A value is an idea, something we
believe and practice, that is important
                    and meaningful to our family
                           or community.

Molly of Denali is guided by Alaska
Native values that help shape the show,
               the games and learning experiences
for kids and families. You might find
some of these values familiar or similar
to those of your family, culture
                          and community.

Molly’s Artifact: Boreal Owl Placard

I saw this bird in my neighborhood.
I looked in a book to find out the
name of this type of bird and some
         information about it.
Then, I made a museum placard
  with information about this type
of bird to go with its picture.

                                        Boreal owls are cavity dwellers.
They nest in holes in trees (cavities).
                                         The holes are usually natural
                                       hollows or old woodpecker holes.

                                                                                 5

What is a museum placard?

A museum placard is a label used
                  to share important information
about an object or exhibit in
                            a museum.

                     It usually includes the name
of the object, or type of object,
                          what it is and some
                            interesting facts.

                            MR. PATAK
     This is Mr. Patak.
   I wrote a biosketch
about Mr. Patak so others
                            Mr. Patak owns the woodshop
can learn about him. in town. He can make pretty
                            much anything out of wood—
                            like canoes, sleds, chairs and
                            basketball hoops. He can also
                            make bird whistles from wood!
His shop smells like trees in
                            the forest.

What is a biosketch?

A biosketch is a short biographical
text that includes the name and
                         facts about a person.

The purpose of a biosketch is to
                 convey information about a person
and their life to others. It usually
includes a picture of the person
                  and important or interesting facts
                    such as a birthday, birthplace,
                  important life events and special
                           skills or talents.
