Emerson’s features a state of the art Brewery, a Taproom offering 20 beers on tap
with a menu to complement the beer, a 12 tap cellar door, and of course a world
famous range of beers. We operate daily brewery tours. Years ago, a young Richard
Emerson sent a postcard back from his OE (overseas experience) talking about how he
would one day set up a brewpub in Dunedin, like the ones he found while travelling.
That dream was kept alive during all his years brewing; moving from brewing in his
parents’ garage to 4 Grange St Brewery in 1993, Brewery #1. His partnership with
Lion in 2012 helped bring this dream to fruition. On the 4th of July 2016, the dream of
creating a brewpub in his hometown was finally realised, Emerson’s Brewery &

Steampunk HQ

Steampunk HQ Oamaru is New Zealand's premier steampunk experience. Steampunk
is a fun sub-genre of science fiction that features steam-powered technology, set in an
alternate, futuristic version of 19th century Victorian England. Engine SP001 greets
visitors to HQ by belching flames, smoke and eerie sounds. Whilst inside, a museum of
two large darkened rooms presents a theme of a post-apocalyptic future.
Contraptions, bizarre machinery and an ensemble of skeletal sculptures are lit by
flickering lights and accompanied by film, projection and sounds. The portal mirror and
lighting installation is a time travel experience moving visitors through into another
dimension. The large outside junkyard is full of art projects made from found objects
and machinery. Visitors can immerse themselves in the genre by dressing in
steampunk costume or hire a pedal punk four wheel cycle to explore Oamaru's
Victorian precinct and harbour area.
