November 2015 -
The 16
function of education is to teach one to think
intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus
character - that is the goal of true education.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
The holiday season is upon us with numerous activities taking place that provides
opportunities to integrate academics with cultural that engage students and staff in enhancing
student success that meets our mission. Speaking of Mission, we have begun the development
of our Educational Master Plan (EMP) by conducting a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities, and Threats) analysis by both the Board and Faculty/Staff. We are also
examining our mission so as to guide us for the next 5 years (2016-2021). The process will
continue until a complete EMP is produced by next March.
We have also been implementing upgrades in our technology infrastructure. Switches
are being installed to enhance the speed of the internet, a new phone system will be installed
soon, the PA System in CCA has been repaired and Wi-Fi for CCA will be enhanced in the next
couple of months. Other enhancements for the classroom have begun with more planned for the
Spring. All this is necessary to provide faculty and students the tools required for a 21st
Century education.
Upcoming events will continue the dynamism of CHPA such as our Fall Festival and
Veteran's salute.
We will be participating in the Parade of Lights on November 28th as well as having
a Family Night at the Pueblo Zoo in December. An announcement for this special event will
be released soon. This is offered as a special "Thank You" to all our faculty and staff for all
your hard work in supporting our students and community as well as celebrating the holidays.
No, I did not forget we will be off for the Thanksgiving Holiday (Nov. 23-27). I wish
each and every one of you and your family a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
RichardMessage from your Elementary (K-6) Principal
October ended with an array of fun fall activities and a chance for our teachers to show off their personalities by
dressing up in costumes - Here are a few of my favorites!
The month of November brings us the opportunity
to take time to reflect on what we are thankful for
and I am Thankful for our CHPA Faculty who
ensure that Student Success is happening
each and every day! I'd like to give a few
special shout outs to:
Nancy Gordon who gives a smile and a hug
every morning to all the students who enter
school on the 18th street side :) First, Fourth and
Fifth Grade teams, along with Eva Sinker,

Message from your Secondary (7-12) Principal
Good Morning,
There are many activities occurring as we near the end of the first semester. At the end of October we had a Harvest Festival
for all students and they had fun while taking a hay ride, eating caramel apples, painting mini pumpkins, playing games, or
making popcorn hands. We began November with a tribute to our Veteran’s on Nov. 6th with Mr. Chris Robles, Sergeant
Major (Retired) US Army as our keynote speaker. We have Pueblo Community College and Adams State University coming to
campus this month. On November 20th we will be having our annual Junior-Senior Powder Puff Game @ 2:00 PM. We will
also be participating in a couple of community events this month. On November 21st we will be participating in Rake-Up
Pueblo and on November 28th we will be in the Pueblo Parade of Lights. If you are interested in volunteering in either event
please call our front office at (719) 583-1030.

Trujillo (the female drawing on her eye). The work will be displayed from 7am-5pm on the 4th and

everyone kept their eye out for, even on cameras aka Dr. Duran!! They represented our school at the
PCC Foundation Bowl-a-thon, which was held on Halloween!
Reading, Writing, and Math...everyday the skills of our kindergarten students are growing. Soon our students will be reading their very own
books. Parents be ready to sit back and listen as your kindergarten student reads to you.
We had a special visitor on Wednesday, November 28. Ronald Mc Donald came to CCA. He presented an assembly to K-2 grades on
"Giving Back to Your Community." This reminds us, keep on saving those tabs from beverage cans and your soup and vegetable cans. These
tabs are a valuable asset to the Ronald Mc Donald House in Colorado Springs. Funds from the sale of the tabs help provide housing assistance
to families of young children who are hospitalized at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
The kindergarten classes are looking forward to their first field trip on Tuesday, November 17. They will be going to the El Pueblo Museum to
learn about Native American life. It is rumored they may even cook something over an open fire.
To culminate a unit on
Native Americans, the kindergarten
students will be celebrating with a
Harvest Feast on Friday, November 20.
Thank you parents for helping to
provide the food necessary for this
feast.
Santa Claus is coming to CCA on
Friday, December 4. Students in
K-2 grade will have an opportunity
to have their photo taken with Santa.
