Our 2019-2020 fiscal year concludes much in the way it started – with much energy and
enthusiasm to build better.
We began 2019-2020 by reviewing the breadth of education for sustainable development
research so that we could consider how best to serve and guide educators, and the education
systems in which they work, in creating the required conditions for sustainability and innovation.
We closed our fiscal year experiencing a surge in online learning solutions and a pause in
international work and collaboration. With our services experiencing such a shift, in the last
sixty days of our fiscal, we focused on stabilizing our operations, retaining revenue and
mitigating expense and sustaining our talent.
While our education work may be changing, our commitment to empowering skills, confidence,
and knowledge for those who teach, guide and educate has not.
This Annual Review provides a summary of OISE CPL performance indicators in relation to four
organizational priorities of OISE, University of Toronto:

OISE CPL ANNUAL REVIEW 2019-2020 2One of the most important aspects of the UN SDGs are their recognition of the important role education plays to mobilize the collaborative action, critical thinking, curiosity, global citizenship, character, and communication needed to tackle socio-economic impediments to creating inclusive prosperity. Implementing strategies to deliver the SDGs will require the commitment, skills and expertise of educators across all sectors of education (PK12, Post-Secondary, Workplaces) globally. We have established early pathways to directly contribute to the targets of 6 SDGs and in 2019-2020, we developed the CPL Professional Learning Framework as a guide for developing our future programming. OISE CPL ANNUAL REVIEW 2019-2020 7InnovED launched in 2019-2020 as an entrepreneurship initiative within the University of Toronto Entrepreneurship ecosystem, comprised of educators driven to guide, teach, serve and lead within systems and sectors that are experiencing unprecedented change. What binds the community is a deep commitment to improving societies through the work of education. With an initial aim of actively listening, learning and discovering the needs of our stakeholders and communities, we effectively commenced our 2019-2020 activities (concept mapping, focus groups, webinars, program mapping, member coaching, industry pitching and mentor recruiting) by incubating InnovED within OISE Research, International & Innovation and OISE Continuing and Professional Learning. Our 2020-2021 focus is to bridge the connection between innovation and sustainability through various aspects of education ‘work’: teaching, learning and research. The Knowledge for Change (K4C) Consortium is an initiative of the UNESCO Chair in
Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education, under the joint
directions of Dr. Budd Hall (University of Victoria, Canada) and Dr. Rajesh Tandon (PRIA,
India). A variety of local training hubs have been created under the K4C Consortium to design
and conduct educational programs in order to develop research capacities for the co-creation
of knowledge through collective action by practitioners, community-based researchers,
community groups and academics. In Fall 2019, OISE CPL joined the early development of a
