Admission Policy
RICHARDS BAY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL reserves the right to enrol students of its choice, but
shall do so in accordance with selection criteria, which will include:
• Recognition being given to the longest dated provisional application forms.
• Recognition of the desirability of having siblings at the same school.
• Academic suitability and ability of the applicant to benefit from, and contribute to life at
RBCS.
• Assessment of the credit-worthiness of the parents.
• Agreement to support policies, procedures and practices of RBCS.
A process of registration will be followed so as to ensure that the admission of learners takes
place in a timely and efficient manner. In this regard, prospective parents are
responsible to apply for admission of their children to Richards Bay Christian School before
the end of the preceding school year. However, should there be any vacancies in a class at
the beginning of a school year; applications for registration will be considered at that time.
An Entrance Test will be administered prior to registration to determine correct placement of
the learner.
AGE REQUIREMENTS
Compulsory attendance at school is from the beginning of the year in which a child turns 7
years of age to the end of the year in which the child reaches the age of 15 years, or the ninth
grade, whichever occurs first. The Principal of the school may approve admission of a child
turning 6 years of age before 1 July of the year of admission, if the child is school-ready for
Grade 1, and if it would be in the best interest of the child to be admitted to Grade 1. The
admission of the learner is at the discretion of the Principal who acts under the delegation of
the Executive Board of Richards Bay Christian School.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION
• A Parent/Guardian must complete the relevant forms and contractual agreements for
admission to Richards Bay Christian School.
• An official certified copy of the Birth Certificate and/or ID Document of the child. (Clear
copy please)
• Certified copies of both parent’s ID documents (clear copy please)
• Bank Statements for the last 3 months
• Pay slips of the last 3 months
• Most recent school report of the student.
• At Foundation Phase entrance level – proof that the child has been immunized against
the following communicable diseases: Polio, Measles, Tuberculosis, Diptheria, Tetanus
and Hepatitus B.
• If the student comes from another school, a letter of transfer and the most recent report
card of the student is required.
• A fee clearance certificate from current school.
N.B. Only original, unaltered documentation or recently certified copies of
documentation will be accepted.
Admission Policy
ADMISSION OF NON-CITIZENS OF R.S.A.
• Learners whose parents are in possession of a permit for temporary or permanent
residence issued by the Department of Home Affairs may be admitted
• Learners who entered the country on a study permit must present the study permit on
admission.
• Persons classified as illegal aliens will not be admitted.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Submission of Application for Admission form, including all relevant documentation
required.
2. Interview and entrance Assessment
• On receipt of these documents, children will be screened according to criteria
laid down in our Enrolment Policy.
• In the year preceding the proposed entry to RBCS, potential students will be
called for an interview with the Principal.
• An appointment will be made for your child to do an entrance test. This will take
approximately 40 minutes for Primary school applicants and 2 hours for High
School applicants.
• The entrance test will be marked and the necessary financial background checks
will be done. Your child’s acceptance into Richards Bay Christian School is
dependent on financial clearance, entrance test results, as well as availability of
space in the applied grade.
3. Acceptance into RBCS
• An appointment will be scheduled with the principal and finance department.
Thereafter parents will be notified, in writing, confirming the outcome of their
child’s application.
4. On acceptance of the applicants at RBCS
• A non-refundable placement fee of R1000.00 per family will be payable as a
deposit to secure the child’s place. This fee does not form part of the tuition fee.
• A month’s fee deposit on enrolment to counter the month’s notice of transfer.
• Should for any reason parents decide to decline the application the school must
be notified within one calendar month of the interview.
• It is very important to note that ALL requested documentation should be returned
to the school as soon as possible for processing.
5. Welcome Package
• During the fourth term, new parents will receive a Welcome Package via email
containing relevant information as guidelines to assist for the following academic
year.
