Dear OLG Families,

Thank you so very much to all our children, our OLG staff, and school parental leadership for a
wonderful going away celebration yesterday! What fun it was!
As I retire from school administration, I remember the first time I was called by my Congregation to be
the Principal at St. Leonard School (OLG’s previous name). It was August, 1989, and I was on a Campus
Ministry Retreat with seniors and juniors from 5 different Catholic High Schools in California. I loved
being a Campus Minister, but it seemed that God was calling me back to elementary school and to
administration. That was the start of thirty-one years of Principal-ship where I was able to set the tone in
each of the Catholic elementary and high schools in which I was privileged to serve. I served with
women and men dedicated and committed to the students in their care. I worked with families who
wanted Catholic education for their children and did so much for their child’s school. I had the great gift
of being instrumental in the lives of thousands of children, from 2 ½ years to 18 years; watching them
grow up, make choices, handle set-backs, push themselves, succeed, and grow closer to friends, family,
and their God.

Our Lady of Guadalupe School was my first assignment as a young Sister, my first assignment as a new
Principal, and my last place of ministry as a seasoned Principal. It has been and will always be the school
that formed me as a Catholic School Teacher and that holds a huge place in my heart. I am so glad God
gave me this wonderful school, my ‘home-base’, throughout my educational career.

The great Dominican theologian, Meister Eckhart, said:
If the only prayer you say in your life is “Thank You”
                                          that would suffice.

My very dear OLG families, THANK YOU, for all you have given to and done for me in these past nine
years! I will always hold you close in prayer and in my heart. But do note, this is not the last you’ve seen
of me. While my next ministry is not yet finalized, I will continue to live at the Motherhouse here in
Fremont.

I am so grateful that the Principal Search Committee chose Ms. Shannon Bellison to be Our Lady of
Guadalupe School’s fourteenth Principal! Ms. Bellison not only knows our school inside out, she loves
our school! As Vice-Principal she has been “in the know” of all that’s involved in running a school. Her
excellent Catholic educational experience and background certainly positions her to lead us into the future
with confidence and with grace. God bless you, Ms. Bellison!

Thank you, OLG Families, for your continued support of and work for the children of Our Lady of
Guadalupe School. They are certainly our future and deserve the very best!

With a heart full of gratitude,
S. Janice Therese, O.P.
