Plant Based Protein
Sector Snapshot
- -Meat has been the primary source of protein in developed countries for many years, and in recent
years, conventional protein appetite has increased in developing markets. However, due to health and
environmental concerns as well as alternative protein market in animal feed has gain
  importance.

- -Plant-based proteins are derived from seeds rich in protein. Soy, peas, chickpeas are the most well-
  known protein-rich plants.

- -Currently, the market base for alternative protein is approximately $2.2 billion compared with a global
meat market of roughly USD 1.7 trillion.

Health
and Sustainability

animal-based, is growing worldwide.

Health Benefits
                       - According to FAO, almost 800 million people are considered obese, and
over 40 million children under five are overweight. The cost of unhealthy
eating habits to health is estimated at $2 trillion.

                       - It is believed that a plant-based diet could help achieve good health.
Vegetables, whole grains, and legumes are full of fiber, rich in vitamins and
minerals, could help lower heart disease risk, weight loss, and have a
                       healthy brain.

                       - Plant-based protein resources gain importance due to their health effects.
In the USA plant-based food, the largest source of alternative protein, sales
                       rose 17% in 2018.

Sustainability Benefits
                       - An increasing number of people now know that diets rich in whole grains,
legumes, fruits, and vegetables – with decrease meat consumption and
smaller amounts of high fat and high sugar food- are healthy for our bodies.
There is also evidence such diets have much lower environmental impacts
                       than the unsustainable eating patterns.

                       - Plant-based proteins require much fewer resources than animal protein.
%26 of the planet is ice-free land is used for animal grazing, and %33 of
croplands are used for the processing of livestock feed. The use of land
and water for livestock is a sustainability concern.

                       - The idea of sustainable protein sources could be an excellent alternative to
feed the world population, which is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050.
