WELCOME TO THE LORD CREWE ARMS

The Abbey that became a village

Perched perfectly in the midst of the North Pennine moors,
The Lord Crewe Arms is home to twenty-one cosy bedrooms,
The Gatehouse, perfect for private dinners and chef demos,
two restaurants—The Larders and Bishops Dining Room—serving
proper, unpretentious country fare and ‘The Crypt’, our medieval
vaulted pub harbouring weary pioneers on the hunt for Real
Ale, dished up with a generous side of famous ‘Bar Bait.’

The Rooms

Coloured by the Northumbrian landscape and
with a twelfth-century abbots’ guest house,
miners’ cottages and the village's ‘Angel of
Temperance’ as your pillows of choice, you can
rest assured that wherever and whatever your
pick, the epitome of a countryside escape awaits.

Reassuringly comfy, each offers the best beds,
feather pillows and duvets that won’t let you get
up in the morning! Homely enough for slippers
and socks, boasting beds that beg you to jump
into them, and kissed with the softest of yarns.
Our rooms are all about ‘those’ creature comforts
with an added dash of moorland luxury thrown in
for good measure, the fluffiest of towels, cosy
robes, Noble Isle smellies, chilled water jugs and
a delicious helping of Northumbrian fudge.

The Food

Stolen from the big smoke and ransomed to the hills, Chef
Simon Hicks brings skilful and honest fare to the warmth
of our countryside tables. Chef’s dishes are honest, robust
and modern. Delicious, celebratory and nostalgic, with the
kitchen garden and smoke house never far from mind.

Boasting a kind of lawlessness akin to the moors that
envelop us, expect patchwork feasts vibrant with colour,
with beautiful and seasonal ingredients plucked from
countryside spoils. Celebratory centre pieces begging to
be passed around, delicious home-grown crops and of
course, the most heavenly of meats, yours to share, roasting
in the gentle glow of our medieval fireplace daily. To finish,
indulgent puddings that hark back to the good ole days!

A medieval vaulted chamber etched by stout stone
walls, afire with candle-style-ambience and warmed
            by the welcomed chatter of moorland travellers;
The Crypt
there is truly no other pub quite like The Crypt.
Add to the mix a hearty stock of Northumbrian
ales—including our very own ‘Lord Crewe Brew’ on
tap. Throw in a rather thoughtful selection of cracking
wines. Top with a good few measures of Highland
whisky, then spice it up with a Geordie cocktail or
two... and there we have it—the finest free house for
            miles around.

Oh, and not forgetting of course, chef’s ‘Bar Bait.’
Otherwise known as Northumberland tapas, these fill
up our trusty blackboard with squasage kind of
            snacks daily.

                               it in the moors.
