Holy Eucharist with the Society of St. John the Evangelist
Entrance Hymn Hymnal 390
Opening Acclamation
Presider Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
People And blessed be God's kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.

Collect for Purity
Presider Almighty God,
People to you all hearts are open,
           all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hid:
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
           and worthily magnify your holy name;
           through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hymn of Praise S 96
Collect of the Day
Presider Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in
their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
People Amen.
First Lesson
Colossians 2:6–15
       Fullness of Life in Christ

6 Asyou therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted
and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in
       thanksgiving.

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human
tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. 9 For in
him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have come to fullness in him, who is the
head of every ruler and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a spiritual
circumcision, by putting off the body of the flesh in the circumcision of Christ; 12 when you were
buried with him in baptism, you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who
raised him from the dead. 13 And when you were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of
your flesh, God made you alive together with him, when he forgave us all our trespasses, 14 erasing
the record that stood against us with its legal demands. He set this aside, nailing it to the cross. 15
He disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public example of them, triumphing over them
       in it.

Psalm 145:1-9
Gospel Reading
Luke 6:12–19
      Jesus Chooses the Twelve Apostles

12 Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to
God. 13 And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also
named apostles: 14 Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John,
and Philip, and Bartholomew, 15 and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and
Simon, who was called the Zealot, 16 and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a
      traitor.

      Jesus Teaches and Heals

17 He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a
great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. 18 They had
come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean
spirits were cured. 19 And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him
      and healed all of them.

Prayers of the People

Confession and Absolution of Sin
Presider Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor:
           Most merciful God,
People we confess that we have sinned against you
           in thought, word, and deed,
           by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
           We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
           have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
           and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Presider Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ,
strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.
People Amen.

The Peace
Presider The peace of the risen Lord be always with you.
People And also with you.

Collect of Longing
Loving Father, we who are physically distant now groan inwardly as we await the day when we are restored
to the company of our neighbors and brought to the fullness of your presence in the Eucharistic feast.
Comfort us in our longing to be near each other, assure us of your indwelling presence, and hasten the
day when we will abide with you and all our beloved siblings in that kingdom where there is neither
sorrow nor crying but the fullness of joy with all your saints; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

   Invitation
Presider The Gifts of God for the People of God.
         People Thanks be to God.

Southern Africa Spiritual Communion
In apartheid South Africa many prisoners were denied the sacraments and had to find other ways of taking Spiritual
Communion. This found its way into the 1989 Anglican Church of Southern Africa Prayer Book as a help to others
      who could not receive

Jesus, may all that is you flow into me. May your body and blood be my food and drink. May your passion
and death be my strength and life. Jesus, with you by my side enough has been given. May the shelter I
seek be the shadow of your cross. Let me not run from the love which you offer but hold me safe from the
forces of evil. On each of my dyings shed your light and your love. Keep calling to me until that day comes
when, with your saints, I may praise you for ever. Amen.
Closing Hymn Hymnal 336
Post Communion Prayer
  Presider Let us pray.
             Eternal God,
  People heavenly Father,
you have graciously accepted us as living members
of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ,
and you have fed us with spiritual food
in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood.
Send us now into the world in peace,
and grant us strength and courage
             to love and serve you
             with gladness and singleness of heart;
             through Christ our Lord. Amen.
