compete by making artwork inspired
by this year’s theme of migration.
The winning group’s work will be on display.Displays Sam Boughton’s Devon 5 Mar to 26 May The Cafe at RAMM See Devon through the eyes of local artist Sam Boughton. She combines painting, collage, ink splatters, bold brushwork and delicate pastel marks to convey a sense of place and time. From windswept wild grasses on Dartmoor to rusty boats and whitewashed coastal houses, Sam evokes the textures and colours of Devon in this series of original works and prints. Works for sale through the Shop. What Do You Collect? Detectorists 9 Apr to 7 Jul Finders Keepers? gallery This metal-detecting group’s hobby and love of history has brought them a mixed bag of treasure including the valuable, the surprising and the mundane. You can see some of their favourite finds here. MD Finds Group are based in East Devon. An open group, they allow others to share their knowledge and finds through their database, the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and now here in RAMM. Czigane by Bik Van der Pol 30 Apr to 5 May Courtyard. 30 Apr to 16 Jun Cafe The RAMM collection houses the remains of Czigane, a sledge dog that went on Scott’s 1910-1913 expedition to the South Pole. The meteorological records from this expedition are important for today’s climate research. Taking these data as a point of departure, artists Bik Van der Pol’s video work unfolds the relationship between objects, touch and global trade. Commissioned by Exeter Culture with support from the Met Office, St David’s C of E Primary School and RAMM. New artwork by Preston Street Union (PSU) From May Preston Street Union (PSU), an Exeter-based group of artists, use social, collaborative processes to create participatory and performative artwork. Working with curators at RAMM, PSU will develop two new art commissions inspired by RAMM’s 2019 theme ‘migration’ and its rich collections. The first commission will take place outside the museum in Exeter’s city centre in May. Look out for further details online.
