BEFORE THE START

1. REGISTRATION
Registration Desk will be in the main Shrewsbury Sports Village building, which will be
clearly signed (see map), and will be open from 12pm till 2pm. Please allow plenty of
time to register, prepare and to familiarise yourself with the transition area or route.
At registration you will be body marked with your race number and issued with a
goody bag, which will contain 2 personal race numbers and a number sticker for your
helmet.

2. NUMBERS
Race numbers must be worn in such a way that they are clearly visible on your back
and your front at ALL times. Do not fold or alter the number in any way!

3. HELMETS WHEN RACKING
Please ensure that when you are racking your bike you have your helmet with you,
which will be checked for the ANSI or equivalent national standard. A sticker with
your personal race number will need to be placed on the front of your helmet.

4. MARSHALS
Be nice to the marshals. They give up their time so that you can race! Some will be on
station for several hours. We operate a ‘zero tolerance’ policy to either physical or
verbal abuse to marshals.

5. CHANGING/TOILETS
The site contains ample toilets for all to use as well as changing rooms/showers.

6. COMPETITOR BRIEFING
This race pack is your main source of information for the race but we will hold a short
briefing for all competitors just before the start of their Age Group’s race.

8. BEFORE YOUR RACE
Before the race for your Age Group begins, you should wait in the area by the
Start/Finish Line (shown on the map). We will call for your age group to get ready
shortly before your race begins. You could cheer and support competitors from other
age groups while you are waiting.

9. SPECTATORS
There is an area between the Start/Finish line and bike track which to spectate the
race. We politely ask that spectators do not HINDER, OBSTRUCT or ASSIST any
athlete during the race. This includes running alongside your child.
DURING THE EVENT

10. EVENT TIMINGS
The event will start at 12:30pm, and will start with the TriStar 3 Age Group (Age
13/14 years). After that we will begin each subsequent age group’s race as soon as
the previous one has finished.
Times below are our estimate. You should keep a close eye on event proceedings
so that you know when your race is due to begin.

TriStar3 (13/14 yrs): 12:30pm
TriStar2 (11/12 yrs): 1:15pm approx
TriStar1 (9/10 yrs): 1:50pm approx
TriStart (8yrs): 3pm approx

NB – Remember, your age for the race is the age that you will be on 31 December
                                                                          st

2019
Athletes should assemble in the area next to the Start/Finish line before they are
due to race.

11. BIKES, HELMETS AND TRANSITIONS
You can put your bike and helmet into the Transition (shown on the map) while the
age group before yours is racing. Please assemble in the area next to the Start/Finish
line while the age group before yours are on the cycle leg.

Marshals will call your age group when it is time to get ready for the race. There will
also be marshals on hand to help you to put your bikes and helmets onto the
transition racking.

Please be reminded that helmets MUST be fastened on you head BEFORE you pick up
your bike and on returning from the cycle you should put your bike onto the racking
before removing your helmet. Marshals will be on hand to help with this, especially
for the younger age groups.

12. RUN 1
Once all the bikes are in transition, make your way to the start line, where you will
receive a short briefing reminding you how many laps you need to complete on each
section of the course and where to mount and dismount your bike. (See map) The run
section of the race is bumpy in places and if it rains, may become muddy in places. It
is advisable to wear suitable footwear for these conditions.

RUN 1:
TriStar 3: 5 laps (2km - 5 bands)
TriStar 2: 4 laps (1.6km - 4 bands)
TriStar 1: 3 laps (1.2km - 3 bands)
TriStart: 1 lap (400m)
There will be marshals and arrows to help to show the way. Please keep right
especially on the section of the run where there will be athletes running in the
opposite direction. At the end of each lap you will collect a band to identify how
many laps you have completed.
It is important that your race number is visible on your front and back during both
runs to enable us to count how many laps you have done.

When you have finished Run 1 and collected the number of required bands, make your
way into the transition area to put on your helmet and pick up your bike. You should
run with your bike to the Mount Line.

13. BIKE
On exit of Transition Helmets MUST be worn and your race number should be visible
on your back.

BIKE:
TriStar 3: 8 laps (8km)
TriStar 2: 6 laps (6 km)
TriStar 1: 4 laps (4km)
TriStart: 1 lap (1km)

The bike section of the race is on a 1km tarmac bike track. Road, cyclocross and
mountain bikes are allowed. It is important to take care on the corners particularly
the sharp left hand bend at the furthest end of the track.

At the end of the bike section, you should dismount BEFORE the line and run with your
bike back into the transition area – don’t forget to put you bike on the rack BEFORE
you take off your helmet.

14. RUN 2
Once your bike has been safely racked in Transition, exit ensuring that your number is
visible to the front. Marshals will be on hand to show you which way to go. As with
Run 1, the TriStar 3 will collect 1 band on completion of the first lap.

RUN 2:
TriStar 3: 2 laps (800m - 1 band)
TriStar 2: 1 lap (400m)
TriStar 1: 1 lap (400m)
TriStart: 1 out and back lap (200m)
NB – The ‘out and back lap’ is from transition to a turnabout point and onto the finish
line (see map for clarification).

14. FINISH
All the competitors will finish by running between the finish flags where they will
receive a medal.
