In situ simulation allows the most realistic experience in medical simulation and
requires thinking out-of-the-box to ensure the best delivery possible. By stepping
Description out of the skills lab or simulation center and taking simulation directly to the
patient-care space, you can increase your level of "buy-in" and hopefully increase
the retention of information and foster an environment for learning.

1:30 - 3:00 Evaluating Simulation Technology for Purchasing Decisions Dr. Steer W/35 Lab 3m
Simulation professionals have significant influence or decision-making responsibil-
ities regarding purchase of simulation technology. This interactive presentation
      Description
details an approach to evaluating technology to ensure that the needs of all
stakeholders are considered and that a strong business case exists for the
                                                         purchase.

This workshop will allow participants to practice and review their medical care
knowledge in order to understand what their participants experience during sim.
Description Workshop attendees will review the combination of medical case stimuli and
resultant pathophysiology that direct participant actions from the other side of
the glass. The workshop will review 5 cases from each of 5 common chief
complaints sets (chest pain, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, altered mental
status, and pelvic pain/vaginal bleeding) to give healthcare simulation technology
specialists hands-on review to make their sims better and more realistic.
Workshop participants will review common pathology and medical care
considerations with instruction on clinical application.

 3:00 - 4:00 Simulation Modalities: A Programmatic Approach Mr. Brauer P Large

Often times simulation equipment is purchased without a thorough consultation Auditorum
process. As a direct result, technologies are either not used or not used to their
Description greatest potential. The course will offer ideas and strategies for building and
equipping a simulation program around curricular requirements. Leveraging such
is beneficial when exploring purchases, life cycles, and how to get the greatest use
                                               of each technology.

      8:30 - 10:00 Cybersecurity in the Workplace
The presentation focuses on cybersecurity and social engineering. We will go
through threats overview, which is designed to bring awareness to the different
security concerns surrounding specific threats. We will talk about password safety
Description and best practices for creating a strong password. We will also talk about web Mr. Sekandarpoor P Large
protection, which we will go through different things to know about when utilizing Auditorum
the internet, then we discuss email protection where we focus on email threats
and spam. Finally, we will finish up with preventative measures and tips.

      8:30 - 10:00 The PADDIE+M Approach to Scenario Development
PADDIE+M is an instructional design methodology developed by the US Navy from
the popular ADDIE method and incorporates input from the entire delivery team, Dr. Steer
      Description W/36 Lab 3
not just the educator. This workshop will describe the PADDIE+M process and then
take participants through a preliminary plan for designing a scenario for their
                                                    simulation program.

8:30 - 10:00 Setting up for Success: the Importance of Orientation and Prebriefing
According to the INACSL Standards of Best Practice in simulation, all
simulation-based experiences should begin with a pre-briefing. This should include
a structured orientation of the participant(s) to the simulation space, equipment,
simulator (e.g. manikin), information and communication technology used, roles
(such as participants, facilitator, standardised patient), time allotment, broad
Description and/or specific learning objectives, patient situation, and limitations ("INACSL Mr. Brauer W/no limit Lab 5
Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM Simulation Design," 2016). This is
important not only so students understand and respect the use of expensive and
sophisticated technology, but helps manage their anxiety in such technology-rich
environment (Larew, Lessans, Spunt, Foster, & Covington, 2006). This presentation
explores methods of orientation/ induction in simulation

outcomes of simulation operations and simulation programs.

10:00 - 11:00 Introduction to Assessment in Simulation P Lab 2

Assessment in education sometimes gets a bad reputation. We're doing too much.
Description Not enough. It's subjective. How to assess what we do? What about art of medicine?
Assessment at a fundamental level doesn't have to be a mystery. Come to learn the
basics of assessment and how to integrate it in to your simulation programming.

10:00 - 11:00 You Can Simulate Anything, but Should Not Dr. Crawford Keynote Large
                                                                                                                                    Auditorum
Simulation is one of the most powerful tools available in medical education. We have
numerous studies showing the benefit and efficacy of simulation as a way to
improve learning, procedural skill, and patient safety. Even with all of the potential
benefits of simulation, the hardest lesson in simulation is learning when not to use
Description it, or identify-ing how to change your approach to improve learning and the take
home message. Standards have been written and publications look better wiht
positive results, but not all educational approaches in simulation have been
successful. This talk will outline best-practices fro simulation and discuss when you
might encounter problems in the implementation or takeaway from simulation and
how to address these potential problems

11:00 - 12:00 Lunch Break

12:00 - 2:00 Scenario Programming with Laerdal SimDesigner Mr. Brauer W/15 Lab 4
LLEAP programming styles vary from person-to-person and may also depend on
scenario complexity. The workshop will explore various programming methodologies
Description including trends, handlers, images, labs, etc. Trends and Handlers are valuable but
often overlooked tools for automating scenario progression and manikin responses.
This workshop will take LLEAP users through the process of creating a
                semi-automated scenario using SimDesigner Software.

                                                                                                                                                13

Bruises, rashes, burns, and superficial wounds are some of the most commonly
Description requested moulage effects requested for simulation scenarios. In this workshop
participants will learn how to create these essential moulage effects on manikins
                     and humans.

                                                in Healthcare Simulation
An analysis of knowledge, skills and experience required in recruitment notices
and position descriptions for HSTS (and related) positions in Australia, Canada, the
Description UK and USA was undertaken over a three month period between September and
November 2018. This analysis has aided the development of core
descriptors for simulation technology roles at each of the three employment
levels. Results and future implications will be shared during this presentation.

A Clinical Guide for Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists Mr. Brauer P Lab 4
      2:10 - 2:30
Many of those who find themselves in simulation technology and operations
roles do not have a medical backgroud and are therefore submersed into an
arena filled with medical equipment and a foreign language. This presentation
Description will focus on understanding and troubleshooting common medical equipment
such as IV pumps, defibrillators & hospital beds. Associated medical terminology
and abbreviations are also covered and are helpful to know and understand.
Being able to apply this core knowledge is advantageous to technical personnel
                                                in every simulation program.

practice. Learners should be able to understand that this type of training can be
useful across all regions of the world where healthcare is delivered and support
the use of this type of educational training.
