December 20, 2020 St. Francis of Assisi, Castle Rock 3 This Week’s Message From Our Priests Fr Homero’s continuing series on Respect Life Issues... What does the Church say about Euthanasia? There is no doubt that euthanasia is contrary to the will of God. The Bible describes perfectly how God created us; how He has a purpose for each of us; how He reserves the right to call us home; how He cares for us; and how our suffering in this life purifies us and prepares us to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. From the very beginning, all true Christians have looked upon both suicide and murder as grave sins: “You shall not kill” says the book of Exodus (20, 13). Pope Pius XII synthesizes the teaching of the Church with the following words: “Therefore, writes the Pope, medical law can never permit either the physician or the patient to practice direct euthanasia, and the physician can never practice it either on himself or on others. Medical law has no authority and the doctor is not obliged to obey it. On the contrary, he is obliged not to take it into consideration.” The clearest and most definitive statement on euthanasia issued by the Catholic Church is the 1980 Declaration on Euthanasia, which says: “No one is permitted to ask for this act of killing, either for himself or herself or for an- other person entrusted to his or her care; nor can he or she consent to it, either explicitly or implicitly. Nor can any authority legitimately recommend or permit such an action. For it is a question of the violation of the divine law, an offense against the dignity of the human person, a crime against life, and an attack on humanity…It is necessary to state firmly once more that nothing and no one can in any way permit the killing of an innocent hu- man being, whether a fetus or an embryo, an infant or an adult, an old person, or one suffering from an incurable disease, or a person who is dying.” Along with Fr Tim, Dcn Ed, Dcn Matthew, Dcn Dustin, Dcn Tom, Dcn Jake and the wonderful parish staff here at St Francis , I want to wish you and your family a Blessed and Holy Christmas! With fraternal affection, Fr. Homero Cardozo Pastor Worship - Prayer - Stewardship Readings for the week of December 20th 2020 For those unable to attend Mass, join us on Monday: Sg 2:8-14 Lk 1:39-45 Facebook Live Tuesday: 1 Sm 1:24-28 Lk 1:46-56 at 5:30 pm every Saturday, Wednesday: Mal 3:1-4, 23-24 Lk 1 57-66 9:30 am every Sunday, or 1:30pm Sundays in Spanish Thursday: 2 Sm 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a 16 Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Lk 1:67-79 Friday: Christmas Day Is 52:7-10 Heb 1:1-6 Jn 1:1-18 Debt Reduction Update Saturday : Acts 6:8-10, 7-54-59 Mt 10:17-22 Current balance on loan: …......…... $2,693,472.02 Next Sunday: Sir 3:2-6, 12-14 Our Parish Goal is to pay off $600,000.00 of our Mortgage. December 20, 2020 St. Francis of Assisi, Castle Rock 5 Knights of Columbus Council 8909 is sponsoring Consecration to the Holy Family. This event is open to all parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi, but especially our Parish families. The Church starts at home, and looking to the Holy Family as our inspiration, we attempt to exemplify the lessons they provide us. The Consecration to the Holy Family will happen on the Feast of the Holy Family, December 26th (vigil) and December 27th (solemnity) at the end of each Mass. Prayer cards will be made available before these Masses, and we encourage families to prepare for the Consecration at least a week before the event through Family prayer, penance, and fasting.
