The Berwyn Park District Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution R-18-02 which amends the Berwyn Park District General
Use Ordinances effective May 1, 2018. The amended ordinances now provide for park users to bring domesticated animals and
pets into permitted areas of parks operated by the Berwyn Park District.
The change in the ordinance was based on several factors including a survey conducted in 2017 in which more than 70% of the
respondents favored allowing leashed pets into the park system.
Effective May 1, 2018 people may bring domesticated animals and pets into the park system, with said animal on a leash with
a maximum extension of 6 feet and the owner or person must be in-control of the leash at all times. There will areas where
animals are prohibited including playgrounds, pool, tennis courts, waterways, botanical areas, or sports fields. Animals may not
be allowed to run at large (off leash). Violators are subject to a $100.00 fine and four (4) hours of community service at the park
district. All current State of Illinois and Cook County animal requirements are also in effect.

Pet owners are also reminded not to let their pets interfere As part of the District’s efforts to be more pet friendly,
with natural wildlife and migrating species who enjoy the the District will be installing pet waste bag dispensers and
protection of both federal and state laws. additional signage in all of the parks.

The Karban Park Dog Park will remain as the only off leash permitted areas within the park system which is governed under
rules prescribed by the Cook County Animal and Rabies Control. Due to the county requirements, the cost of an annual Karban
Park Dog Permit is $35.00 per year. More information related to Cook County animal related regulations is available
at www.cookcountyil.gov/agency/animal-and-rabies-control-0.
The District will be monitoring pet owners for regulation compliance but believes
that most pet owners are responsible and will self-govern themselves.

The entire General Use Ordinance is available for inspection at www.berwynparks.org. 11

Chain Reactions – Ready, Set, Roll!
By Afterschool Enrichment Solutions
See the laws of motion at work in this unique and thrilling, hands-
on course for grades 1-6. Students will construct machines, like the
Heavyweight Hammer and the Spin-o-Matic, and then combine them
to create exciting chain reactions! Each week, the chain reactions will
become more complex with the introduction of new machines. The
projects will afford students the opportunity to delve into concepts
such as force, gravity, velocity, types of energy, and balance. At the Berwyn Bombers

       Garden Club
The Proksa Park Garden Club is sponsored and funded by the Berwyn
Park District. The club meets on the third Monday of the month in the
Community Room at 3001 S. Wisconsin Ave at 6:30pm. Occasional special
functions are held elsewhere and are posted on the Garden Club section of
the Berwyn Park District website. Club members volunteer to help design,
create and maintain several gardens in the park. These include a Butterfly
Garden, a Native Plant Garden and a Children’s Garden.

The club is always looking for new members to help maintain the gardens
in Proksa Park! If you would like to help out, contact Cody at (708) 956-
7870 or cbrown@berwynparks.org. He will pass along your information to
a club member and help get you started. Once a member, you can work on
a garden of your choice anytime the park is open!
