                SUMMER PROGRAMME
                INTRODUCTION
For many students, the closed border presents the opportunity to stay in New Zealand over summer
for the first time. Study Auckland wants students to make the most of their summer in New Zealand
and provides the following information to help schools develop their summer programmes.

Auckland Summer Programme
The perfect Auckland Summer Programme is a combination of three central elements, providing
students with the opportunity to prepare for the future, experience New Zealand and do some good.

   LEARNING + TRAVELLING + VOLUNTEERING

    • Hobby classes

Schools may choose to develop and manage their own summer programme or work in collaboration
with other schools. The summer programme offered to students may include activities managed by
the school(s) and/or experiences or courses provided by external partners.
To make it easier for schools to develop their programmes and retain students for the 2021 school
year, Study Auckland has sourced a range of learning, travelling and volunteering options available for
secondary students over summer. Some operators have supplied fliers to advertise their experiences,
which can be found in this Google Drive folder.

Bookings
   • Schools are responsible for making their own bookings and payments directly with education
providers, tour operators and volunteer organisations.
   • All information provided to Study Auckland has been included in this document and the Google
Drive folder, meaning additional enquiries will be best made with the supplier.
   • Schools need to ensure the supplier / operator meets their H&S and Code of Practice
        requirements.
   • These options are not exclusively for international students – homestay brothers and sisters or
Kiwi friends are welcome to join in.

                TRAVEL OPTIONS
Many students will be experiencing their first summer in New Zealand so it’s a great time to dig into
the culture, visit other parts of New Zealand and tick some things off the bucket list.

What is in this section?
This section covers tours out of Auckland as well as packages or day trips around Auckland.
Some operators are well known in the student space, others are operators Study Auckland has
worked with in the past. All operators featured have considered the target market that will be
remaining over summer and adapted their offer accordingly.
Study Auckland asked for the following information from operators:
   • Tour/activity name
   • Description
   • Who the tour is for
   • Length of tour
   • Date(s)
   • Cost
   • Whether they can take individual or only group bookings
   • Minimum and maximum tour sizes to operate
   • What would happen if lockdown occurred again
   • Address
   • Contact details for enquiries and bookings

Bookings / Enquiries
Some tour operators have provided dates for their tours and others have left it open. For those who
have left it open, it may be best to contact them and say that you have a student or a group interested
in their tour, allowing them to figure out the best date that fits all the schools, perhaps coming back to
you with a firm date for the tour.
