NOOSA CLASSIC 2018
WELCOME
Welcome to the 2018 Noosa Cycling Classic.
Congratulations for signing up for a ride through the Noosa Hinterland that you will not forget. This is the
first year of the Noosa Classic and I hope that you enjoy everything that this event has to offer!
Starting in Tewantin, an easy 5km ride from Hastings Street in Noosa, this course will take you far away
from the peaceful sound of waves lapping the shore. You’ll ride through ever-changing mountain scapes,
into lush valleys and past historic towns as you push yourself to the finish line.
We have three main rides - 160km (ascent 1,885m), 120km (ascent 1,341) and the Social
45km (ascent 235m). Both the 160km and 120km will be timed. This does not mean that the event is a
race. This gives you an opportunity to set a time, so you can better it in the years to come.
There will be 3 King of the mountain challenges along the 160km and 120km courses that you can
post your best time up the climbs. Just make sure that you save some energy for when you get to
the last KOM and tackle the infamous Cootharaba KOM as this certainly makes for a tougher climb
at around the 130km mark. You will be dreaming of the event village at this point! How will your legs
be on the home stretch?
The 120km ride will see participants complete most of the 160km course. The 120km riders will not do
the Imbil Loop. This course is certainly no walk in the park with over 1400m of climbing to completed so
riders will need to come fully prepared.
The Social 45km is a great addition to the weekend and something that we are very proud of. This loop
will allow riders to cycle explore the area. Riders will take a ride out to the historic lakeside town of Boreen
Point. Enjoy a rest stop and coffee by Lake Cootharaba or just up the road a beer or wine at the historic
Apollonian Hotel.
The local pub was constructed in the heydey of the 1870s Gympie Gold Rush and sat in Gympie until
1985, when it was moved to the picturesque village of Boreen Point on the shores of Lake Cootharaba.
Set on 3½ acres and surrounded by rainforest gardens, waving palms and rolling lawns, the Apollonian
Hotel shows the charm and elegance of colonial past with its wide, cool verandahs and open fireplaces.
Once refreshed, riders will mosey on back to the Noosa Classic village.
The final stop for all riders is the Noosa Classic Village. There will be a carnival atmosphere with live mu-
sic and entertainment. Grab your complimentary drink, sit back on the beanbags, enjoy a massage and
purchase some food from local producers and restaurants.
We want to continue to make this the safest event possible. Please remember to ride responsibly. Always
ride within your limits and respect the road rules. Say “hello” to other riders while out on course and let
them know your passing by saying “rider right” – it makes a huge difference.
Once again, thank you also to all the riders, sponsors, volunteers and spectators who participated in the
Noosa Classic!
Ride safe and we look forward to welcoming you as you cross the finish line at the Noosa Classic
Event Village.
