Term 1 10th March 2021
Learning for the future
Ahuwhenua – Manaakitia – Manamotuhake – Manawanui - Hiranga
Welcome all! We are in Week 6 of an 11 week term.
Home and School Film on the Field Night
On behalf of the Home and School Team and the staff of Kamo Primary School, we want to thank you for
supporting our Film on the Field night. It was a great success because you turned out to support it.
Home and School AGM
The Home and School Annual General meeting is to be held Tuesday 30th March at 7pm in Room 5.
All Parents welcome. This is not a meeting where children are welcome.
Kamo Primary School Board of Trustees Meeting
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 30th March at 6pm in the Staffroom. If you have anything you would like to
ask the Board or a point to raise, please email myself at principal@kamoprimary.zchool.nz or our Board
secretary finance@kamoprimary.school.nz
Swimming
Please keep swimming gear coming to school. The pool is heated and this allows our students to keep
swimming at school this term.
Coal and Boiler
We have some coal left in a shed and wondered if anyone had use for it? Please contact the office if you would
like this. We also have an old boiler that can be removed if anyone has use or knows of anyone who could use
it. There is no charge, just the cost it would take you to get it out.
Zone Information for Entry and prior to Balloting - How do I know if a school has zoning and whether I'm
in their zone? To see if a school has an enrolment zone and whether you live within that, go to the ‘Find a
School’ tool on the Education Counts website, type in a school or address and then search. You can then choose
to see the enrolment zone in place for that school or address. You can type in: https://
www.educationcounts.govt.nz/find-school
You can also talk to the team at school and we can tell you about our enrolment zone and whether you
live within in. We stress, please do not take the Real Estate Agents word when you are buying a house that you
are in the Kamo Primary School zone just because the property is in Kamo. Our zoning covers a smaller patch
than you would expect in the Kamo area.
If you are not in zone and wish to apply for a balloted position then read the next Panui. However, the Kamo
Primary School Board of Trustees is not balloting for 2021 as we have high numbers of students out of zone
that we are working through. We are now in the position where we have some families who have one child
attending Kamo Primary School, and the others at other schools. The Ministry of Edcuation cannot support
your child entering Kamo Primary School if you are out of zone, as they will not break the law.
Understand Me
This year Kamo Primary School will be involved in a research project with Janet S. Gaffney, Professor,
Educational Psychology – Literacy, Director of Marie Clay Research Centre. Understand Me is about hearing
and understanding... "If they can't understand me, how can I understand them?" This is a quote from a student
in the 2018 report, Education Matters to Me: Key Insights, by Children's Commissioner Andrew Beecroft and
the New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA). It is for all students and when the invite comes your
way, we do hope you take advantage of this opportunity. We are honoured to be approached to be part of this
research. Any opportunity we can experience to improve educational outcomes for all of our students, we are in
and learning!
Contacting your Child’s Teacher
Please remember, if you wish to share, question, understand and support classroom life for your child or
children, please do not hesitate to contact their classroom teachers.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning.
Play is really the work of childhood.”

sleeping in my bed and purrs so contentedly all day. Did you know cats can sleep for 10 hours.

School Reminders
• Healthy lunchboxes are a school recommendation and the least amount of processed food the better.
Sandwiches, fruit, raw vegetables, cheese and boiled eggs are best options for optimising student
engagement and participation. We do have a fruit stop at Kamo Primary School and this varies
between 9.30am and 10am. It is a fruit only eating stop. We are a water only school when it comes to
drinks. Water bottles help to keep students hydrated during the day for learning.
• We applaud and adore named clothing and as a teaching team are worried about the amount of
children that cannot identify the clothes they wore to school that day. Please, as you dress your child
or before you say goodbye, it would be great to see if they are aware of the clothes they have on for
the day. Kamo Primary is a growing school and it is very hard to keep track of what 450 plus
students are wearing daily, which is why we value your support.
• Lost Property will be on display this week.
