American Legion Dewey Lowman Post #109
January / February 2018 - Our 84th Year
Commander’s Message
It's hard to believe the holiday season is now behind
us! We had an eventful December with The
Department of Maryland Christmas Party, Children's
Christmas Party and The Street Survivors Car Show
and breakfast! The Street Survivors hold car shows
at our post twice a year, and it is always a wonderful
time. During the event in December, the group made
two very generous donations, one to Dewey Lowman
Post 109 and the other to McVets. These donations
are greatly appreciated, and will go a long way to
improving both organizations, thank you!
2017 has given us the opportunity to make a few
improvements, some necessary, and some for the
benefit of the post. These improvements are rarely
cheap; okay they're never cheap, but with the support A Big Thank You to the Street Survivors of MD

1. Cell Phones: Continue bringing them to the post.
I will make sure they get into the right hands for
shipment. Our military personnel need these
minutes generated to call loved ones at home while
they are overseas and some in harm’s way.
2. Special Olympics: I have been appointed by our
Department Commander to Chair the Special
Olympics Committee. I have attended the Regional
and State Tournaments. The polar Bear Plunge is
coming up on January 26th at Sandy Point State
Park. Its really a hoot and if you’ve never been, I

veterans living there. If you would like to go and
bring a little joy to these vets, please tell me.
5. Post #109’s Children’s Christmas Party: I would
like to personally thank all the volunteers who
helped make this party a great success. To see the
smiles on the faces of the little ones faces certainly
brought joy to all who attended. As usual Santa was
a big hit with the kids.
6. Car Show: The Street Survivors of MD once
again donated a @2,000.00 check to McVets. I
personally thanked Rick and all the “Street
Survivors” at the breakfast when they presented me
with the check. Thanks to all the volunteers for
taking the time on a Sunday morning and making
the breakfast a great success.
7. Department Commander’s Christmas Party: A
big shout out to Ron Holcomb (Dept. Sgt. @ Arms)
for all his hard work in making this reception/party
a huge success. Ron put in a lot of hours getting all
the strings tied in the right knots, and he wasn’t
even in the Navy. Thanks again to all our Post
Volunteers for their loyalty to their Post. Everyone
there had to have their picture taken with Santa in
that fabulous sleigh. Thanks Glen, you’re “The
Man” or should I say, “The Best Santa Ever”.
