The eVolving WorkPlace at eBay • eBay is developing a new pan-European programme, taking the US WorkPlace Initiative and adapting this to deliver a stimulating and space- efficient workplace environment throughout Europe and beyond. It offers the workforce a wide catalog of working ‘SCENES’ within an office area, where staff can choose where and how to work, communicate and innovate. The goal is to maximize the space for the benefit of the staff, to attract and retain the very best people, and allow both personal and company growth. • eBay currently spans across 4 continents and 34 countries and whilst each location contains subtle changes in the physical look and feel of the offices, including how people interact and operate, its core values and behaviours remain constant. • We call this WorkPlace eVolution = WPe. 3 eBay Inc. confidential
eVolution - “Evolution is the process of change, over time, by natural selection”
Key Factors which influence the evolutionary WorkPlace process at eBay:

Why is there need to change? • eBay has dynamic business plans that will have a significant impact on the existing real estate portfolio. • eBay must embrace change/eVolution to retain and fully utilize its more flexible, transient work force. • We must create environments that support these plans, by delivering against the needs of the users whilst remaining cost affective. • WPe plays a major role in supporting, attracting, and enabling these individuals from across a range of backgrounds and cultures to create a business that is output driven while fulfilling not only the expectations of eBay but meeting the expectations of the individual as well. 5 eBay Inc. confidential

eVolution: [ A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form. ]
• IN THE BEGINNING...
– eBay currently employs a generic standard based around a 120 degree desking
system, that comprise of two sizes. The most common being 1525mm x 1525mm
and a new standard of 1220mm x 1220mm which has recently been introduced in
the some European locations. eBay operates on 1:1 desking allocation system,
every eBay employee is allocated a 120 degree desk for their personal use.
These workstations tend to have a tall storage unit or in some cases a mobile
pedestal with cushion.

It involves the arrangement and design of buildings, public spaces, services and amenities - the process of giving form, shape and character to homes, to whole neighbourhoods and even communities. Energy Programme:
• The working environment can either stimulate and sustain people’s energy
or dampen and drain it. For it to be a positive experience that adds value, it
must meet a series of basic human needs:
– Our need to renew our physical energy
– Our need to feel valued
– Our need to focus and be creative
– Our need to connect with others in a range of ways
• The idea of Energized Environment
– We’re designed to move
– We need to be outside/sunlight for periods of the day
– We need to alternate cultivate moving our focus from tactical to big picture to be
at our most productive
– We have an energy curve that runs throughout the day – different spaces
encourage us to maximize our natural energy cycle

10 eBay Inc. confidentialEnergy Programme: cont‘d… The Seven Spaces We believe office environments need six spaces to get the best from people: • Base or Nest – email, storage – the place I call ‘home’ at work • Social networking - on relaxed sofas where people can flock to hold informal meetings and exchange ideas in a relaxed state • Recovery – building the wave – a quiet, low light area where people can close their eyes in comfort for 5-15 minutes without anxiety • Formal presentation/meeting – the familiar space for hosting formally chaired meetings • Creativity space– floor to ceiling whiteboards where people can contextualize problems and expand their thinking beyond the limitations of PowerPoint • Focus and stimulus space to think and focus – ranging from small booths where people can absorb themselves in focused work, to a stimulating research space (like a library) where they can research and learn. This should not become another meeting space. • Exercise – with programmes to encourage non-com bunnies to find joy in liberating those endorphins 11 eBay Inc. confidential

The basis or groundwork of anything: the moral foundation of both society and religion ] • The foundation of the WPe is the module. • A working unit of 1700mm x 1600mm • The floor plate of each facility (whether existing or new) whatever its shape and size will be divided into those areas which will benefit from a grid • The power and data is based on the grid which will allow flexibility when using and changing scenes, each module + scene will receive a set amount of power and data. 12 eBay Inc. confidential

WPe has developed the working society into four working networks open
to all employees:

in harmony with the surroundings; on familiar ground ]
• myNeighbourhood: [ The people living near one another; a section lived in by neighbors and usually having
distinguishing characteristics ]

communis : a unified body of individuals; an interacting population of various kinds of individuals ]
• myWorld: [ Middle English, from Old English woruld human existence, this world, age (akin to Old High German weralt age,
world); akin to Old English wer man, eald old: the earth with its inhabitants and all things upon it; the sphere or scene of one’s life and
action ]

Our home provides us with private space shared with our immediate family. The neighbourhood provides us with shared resource which we use with our close neighbours, such as a local park. The community is akin to our city which would have more elaborate shared resources such as libraries or town halls, whilst the world opens us up to opportunity and knowledge outside of our immediate sphere. The social networks come from a need to define the circles or areas we work or operate in our daily lives as we have different networks of people, roles and responsibilities within these different levels. 14 eBay Inc. confidential

All space should be re-zoned to support the end user who can then choose during their working day the zone that makes them feel comfortable enabling them to contribute and do their best work. Scenes: [ :the place where some action or event occurs. ] • Each zone will be supported by a prescribed set of furniture ‘SCENES’ that meets differing user requirements, whether it be for myHome, myNeighbourhood or myCommunity. • In order for the WPe to adapt to different locations and needs, these six zones each have a set menu of ‘SCENES’, or nuanced variations, that can be chosen from. These ‘SCENES’ all use the same modular approach to floor space (the grid), which allow the ‘SCENES’ to interchange with minimum disruption. • For example, the zone BASE has four ‘SCENES’ (MOTEL, CELL2, WORKPLACE and PICNIC) see below diagram of workplace. These ‘SCENES’ maybe used in different working networks depending on the allocation of resource, therefore as BASE is our primary work zone the ‘SCENES’ focus heavily on computer use and the permission to use the ‘SCENE’ depends on which working network it falls into. 18 eBay Inc. confidential

• Research
– WPS will ensure that our customers will end up with an environment that most
suits their needs
– to deliver the best space possible and for people to feel comfortable about the
change in their working environment
– In a effort to increase communication, engagement and productivity it is essential
that departments and key sponsors are engaged at the planning stage, when the
floor plate is divided up by the grid and the use of scenes is first explained.
• Planning
– Utilizing underused space intelligently and efficiently,
– Consulting users identifying underused areas, desks, meeting rooms and
communal areas.
– This will free up space to offer the workforce the ‘SCENES’ they require.

• Freedom
– Departments will see greater staff integration: with the inclusion of social hubs,
informal meeting and touchdown solutions where end users can choose where to
work, meet and interact more freely, creating an open forum for creative
interaction and innovation to bring out the best in people.
– WPe is cost effective: giving the staff the space they need when they need it
enabling the company to target expenditure more efficiently that would otherwise
be spent on additional real estate.
– The modular nature of the concept allows constructive change to be achieved
faster and more cost effectively with a pre-specified and self-contained menu of
furniture across the zones meaning that future costs can be easily calculated.
