T    he Junior’s Program has passed
     the next milestone in its to-the-
moon growth! Youth racers have
been sent to represent the Ventura
Yacht Club in regattas in two sepa-
rate events in two classes of boat.
Our Opti Race Team, composed of
five students, was able to send one
down to King Harbor Yacht Club for
the final race in the 2021-2022 Car-

racing was piqued by one of our
students, Sam, who had been sailing
Lasers at our program for the last
year. As someone whose fondest
memories from youth racing are in
the Laser, I decided to try for the
May 7/8 Santa Barbara Skiff Festi-
val, and Sam was on board with the

racing. Like the Opti fleet, the La-
sers are extraordinarily competitive,
but there is no “green fleet” for be-
ginners; a trial by fire was to be ex-
pected, so a trial by fire is what we
trained for. Over the course of the
