with a combination of controlled assessments (Art, Product Design, Computer Science) and terminal written examinations in Year 11.
Vocational Courses – More applied/work related in content which develop practical skills and knowledge. Courses assessed through
observational practical work and the creation of portfolio evidence but also now include exams (these are not terminal and can often be re-sat).

A conceptual qualification
Prestigious Curriculum Pathway that facilitates access to some HE Universities

Curriculum Changes
Triple Science
• No longer offered as part of the curriculum
• All students still study all three science disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) through Combined Science
• Triple science is not necessary for entry to Sixth Form to study any of the single sciences, just a 6-6 in Combined Science
• Single Sciences are not a requisite qualification at GCSE for any University to study science at degree level, including Oxbridge
and courses in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science
• Not including Triple Science offers a broader balance of curriculum for students as opposed to their curriculum being taken
up by over 28% science
• Triple Science will be offered from September in an after school class for an additional one hour per week for those
interested – More info to come out later in the year

Education to 18 and beyond
• Government announced a few years ago that all young people have to stay in
education to 18.
• Advantages for students at HCHS is that post 16 provision exists for all here.
• Options choices for KS4 will be influenced by future thoughts, dreams and
aspirations for post-16 and post-18 education, apprenticeships and careers.
• Knowing what’s available now can help to guide those choices.
