From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community,

I would like to start by saying a HUGE thank you to the students, staff and community who
have made me feel so welcome over the past weeks. I am very privileged to have been
given the opportunity to work with you as Mariane begins her maternity leave, and I look
forward to continuing your journey to create a nurturing environment where everyone can
grow, thrive and flourish together. I had the great pleasure of meeting members of the TERM 4 2020
R.O.S.E Charity at the Annual General Meeting held on 17th November. Their support of Dates to remember
students at William Rose School through fundraising and their operations is phenomenal
and I cannot wait to work with them over the next twelve months. A MASSIVE Friday 11/12/20
congratulations must go to the R.O.S.E Charity as their application for funding under the Celebration Day
NSW Government’s 2020 Community Building Partnership program was successful with Assembly
funding approved for $60,000 for the Upper D playground upgrade! This is certainly going to
help us to create an outdoor learning environment that our students can access to regulate Will be videoed and a

teaching and learning activities. I would also like to make special mention to the Wednesday 16/12/20
administration staff who have ensured that it has been a smooth transition for me. There Last day of Term 4
has been a great deal of hard work and care that has been put into making William Rose for students
School an inspiring educational setting and I am so proud to be part of your community.

On Friday 11th December we will be celebrating the achievements of our students and
sharing these moments with the William Rose School family. The celebration assemblies
will be available for viewing on the school website after the editing process is completed

The Year 12 graduation was held on Thursday 3rd December in the school hall. It was a
wonderful celebration of our student’s tremendous achievements and a very special thank
you to our parents and families who have supported the school and were able to attend.

To ensure that you have the opportunity to gain feedback from your child’s classroom
teacher regarding progress and achievement, report evenings commenced last week and
are being held remotely either via ZOOM or telephone call. During these meetings parents
will be informed of the anticipated 2021 student groups and class teachers to assist with the
transition next year. It is important for all families to engage in this process and if you have TERM 1 2021
any questions, please contact the school. Dates to remember

Finally, I would like to wish each and every member of our community a safe and happy Friday 29/1/21
holiday. I know that we keep hearing that we have experienced “unprecedented” times First Day of Term 1
during 2020, but it has been through these times that our community has come together for students
and worked as a team to keep our families safe. Over the holiday period remember to
practice good hygiene and physical distancing, follow all guidelines relating to public Tuesday 2/3/21
gatherings and understand how to isolate yourself if you need to. School Photo Day

The final day for school for our students is Wednesday 16th December and school resumes
for students on Friday 29th January 2021. Have a wonderful break and we will see you in
the New Year!

How can parents help their child travel safely to and from school with
Assisted School Travel, your driver and-or ATSO.

   1. Be ready 15 minutes before the pick-up and drop-off time.

   2. Wait at the agreed safe pick-up and drop-off location outside your home to
      meet the vehicle.

   3. Even if there is an ATSO in the car/bus, you must help your child get in the
vehicle, make sure they are safely seated and your child’s seat belt is buckled
      correctly.

   4. In the afternoon parents again get in the vehicle to undo your child’s seat belt
      and assist them out safely.

   5. Parents also assist travel staff in loading and securing your child and their
mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers.

   6. A reminder that ASTP guidelines clearly state that students cannot eat or
drink on transport. This reduces the risk of choking or an anaphylaxis
reaction. If your child has medical reasons from a doctor, please discuss this
      with us at school.

Parental trauma webinar: The impact of parental trauma on the health
and developmental wellbeing of children and young people.

Teachers, educators and support teams acknowledge that parenting is not easy and some days parents struggle
 too.
Sometimes these struggles can trigger trauma from a parent’s childhood that was not pleasant and, in some cases,
abusive or violent. It may also be a result of domestic violence, grief, neglect or a parent may be temporarily
unable to navigate current additional stressors in their lives.
This presentation will provide an opportunity for you to:

  • Understand how exposure to parental trauma affects the learning, behaviour and emotional reactivity of
        children and young people
  • Gain a better understanding of the impact of parental trauma on families and how it affects their
experience in educational and support settings
  • Assist you to recognise and support trauma affected parents to improve the wellbeing and learning
outcomes for their children and young people
The journey for children and young people who are exposed to unresolved parental trauma can lead to insecure
attachment across generations and present as behavioural and health concerns in educational and support
 settings.
By joining this presentation, it will assist you in creating a deeper awareness of the impacts of parental trauma and
how you can assist children, young people and their families, within your care and community who are
 experiencing these challenges.

It is suitable for principals, teachers, educators, support workers, school administration staff and other
professionals within the community who work with children and young people. It will contribute 2 hours of NESA
registered PD addressing 6.2.2 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for teachers towards
maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
