Baffin Island Photo Adventure 2019 - with Artur Stanisz
I am a landscape photographer based in Vancouver, Canada. Photography has
always been an important part of my life. And so was traveling to remote areas in
search for an adventure and new topics for my photos.

In order to combine my passions I self-trained myself into being a landscape
photographer. I spend majority of my @me hiking and exploring trails, trying to
capture on my photos areas less frequently photographed, yet stunning in their
pris@ne beauty.

Through my photography I express my personal feelings and visions of landscapes
that I explore. I try to showcase natural elements via combina@on of unique
composi@ons and light.

When I don't go to my photo shoo@ng tours I con@nuously challenge myself to
strive for perfec@on in this what I do. I believe it will be my lifelong
journey.

Besides photography and traveling I am interested in issues associated
with environmental protec@on, sustainability, renewable energy sources and
organic/local food movement. I cherish the power of Nature and I am
a strong supporter of pro-ecological movements.

 Mission Statement

My photography and travel adventures are interconnected. I believe that understanding of the Nature and its elements
has a crucial influence on this how the landscape photography develops. Hiking and exploring provides unparalleled
opportuni?es in finding the best composi?ons and catching the most unique light. Photographing landscapes from
within and becoming an integral part of the surrounding environment brings life changing experiences and
opportuni?es of capturing extraordinary moments. If you decide to undertake this adventure with me, you will:

• Hike through interes?ng landscapes
• Camp in the middle of the ac?on experiencing spectacular views
• Enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area
• Bring home many unique memories and photographs
• Pursue a holis?c approach and reconnect with the Nature
• Meet interes?ng people and make good friends

Past Photo Adventures

Arctic Summer, 2018

In 2018, I visited Baffin Island twice, about two weeks apart and this photo comes from my first trip over there in the mid
of August. In the past years, I trekked on Baffin Island a bit later, when the fall was in its full bloom, or even when the
winter was already spreading in the valleys and over the mountains. This ?me I saw a different, more summer-like Baffin
Island, the one with patches of lush green grass, more plen?ful rivers and longer days.
It shocked me how much of a difference two weeks can make in the Arc?c. But regardless of the season, the raw
splendour of Mt. Thor (visible on the photo) keeps inspiring me and makes me think about future adventures on
Baffin Island. Therefore, I will be returning there with my workshops in 2019.

Past Photo Adventures

Secret Vista, 2014

This photo that I ?tled “Secret Vista” is somewhat special to me because it marks a half way of the trek. I took it at the
edge of the glacier, which I explored for 5 days plowing my way through 30 cen?meters of snow. As soon as I stepped off
the glacier I turned around and no?ced some glacier caves. I decided to explore one of them. The moment I entered it, I
no?ced that the icy cold interior of the cave itself perfectly complemented the warm, so[ evening light of the mountain
view outside.
To execute this photo idea, I set up my tripod, got the gear ready, started to look through the viewfinder and all I could
see was a blurred view. I realized that coming from the warmer exterior into the freezing cold and humid ice cave created
the layer of fog on my lens that froze instantly. So I had to wait about 20 minutes to make it opera?onal, again.

                                                            7

Over the Asgard, 2015

Staying near Mt. Asgard on Baffin Island
                            brings unforge]able memories.
But being there while northern lights
start their dance can only be compared
to a some sort of nature made
                            catharsis.

When aurora borealis arrives on the sky
                            the whole previously deeply obscure
area of Turner Glacier explodes with a
                            green glow. This hos?le and
frozen terrain for a moment becomes
                            less distant.

When I was planning the Baffin Island
Photo Adventure in 2015, I was aiming
to be there before winter. I hoped to
get some open water on the glacier to
                            catch on my photos interes?ng
                            reflec?ons.

I envisioned channels curved in the gla-
                            cier with flowing
water. One of these channels is visible
in the foreground of this photo. But
                            when I got to a higher eleva?on,
                            I experienced full winter
                            condi?ons, with glacier covered with
snow instead of nice reflec?ons in the
                            running water.

Out There, 2017

People o[en ask me where I find
                            inspira?on for my photography or
what are my favorite hikes and
                            preferred weather or light condi?ons.
                            We, the photographers are always
                            looking for: experiences, adventure,
                            unique composi?on, perfect light.
I could give a precise inventory of
places where I felt inspired including a
list of condi?ons that brought to life
every single photo of mine. But it
                            wouldn’t necessarily mean that the
                            same set of circumstances would
allow the same level of ar?s?c
                            inspira?on. There are no universal
answers to the ques?on where the
inspira?on comes from and how to
find it. It is all a set of very personal
                            experiences that can’t be enclosed
                            into pre-defined frames.
                            We are all experiencing the
surrounding world via our own lenses
and perceive it in our own, unique
                            way.
Therefore, I can’t tell you exactly what
and where will inspire you, but I can
help you find it by assuring you that
                            inspira?on is out there.

Baffin Island Photo Adventures are designed for people that have some experience with the outdoors
and are ready to hike on and off the trail with a backpack full of food for the dura@on of the hike,
camping equipment and camera gear.

All hikes that were customized for the purpose of these photo adventures are classified as moderate
therefore, by default they are des@ned for people with some level of hiking experience.

Baffin Island Photo Adventures are not standard, commercial types of photo workshops.

Instead, I decided to turn them into informal mee@ngs of a group of new friends that love photogra-
phy & outdoors and gathered together to produce a lot of great photos and memories.

Baffin Island is an extraordinary place characterized by an extreme beauty and uniqueness. At any
given day of the tour we might be forced to hike in rain, snow, wind, etc. This may not be a bad thing
for the main goal, which is a photo adventure. My previous experiences show that the quickly chang-
ing weather tends to bring the best light condi@ons.

Each day of the tour we will hike to mul@ple shoo@ng spots. We will try to capture the beauty of the
chosen landscape during sunrises and sunsets when the light tends to be the most interes@ng.

All your efforts and discomfort associated with camping in the mountains will be rewarded by views
and photos that very few have ever taken. The experiences, memories, friends, and photos that you
will take during this trip will last a life@me and will remind you about this extraordinary @me and
loca@on long aSer your return.

See you on soon on Baffin Island!
