Outdoors and Active
Activ Kidz 2019 This year four park sites across the city will be hosting
the Activ Kidz Summer Neighbourhood Playground Program for children
aged 7 to 12. This program offers activities that promote: active living,
sport discovery, unstructured play, exploring natural outdoor spaces,
creative expression, connecting with community, making new friends and
having lots of fun! Click here for contact information.
Disk Golf Sites Disc golf is an exciting new sport in Red Deer, and it’s free. For more information
on the disc golf courses, visit the Red Deer Primary Care Network’s website.
★ Kentwood - This 9 hole course is located along Kendrew Drive and Kent Street.
★ Victoria Park - This 9 hole course is located along Allan Street.
Outdoor fitness gyms 10 different sites in the city. If you require more information on the outdoor
gym facilities, please contact the Red Deer Primary Care Network (RDPCN) at 403-343-9100.
The City maintains 24 outdoor tennis courts May-Sept. as well as 20+ basketball park courts.
Glendale Skatepark is located just off of 76 Street and Taylor Drive.The Red Deer Skatepark is
located at 43 Street and 48 Avenue, near Rotary Recreation Park and the Red Deer arena.
Industry Skate & Snow: Visit their online calendar for free skate lessons, cruise nights
at Bower Ponds, and skatepark events in Red Deer, Blackfalds, Delburne and area.
Breathing Room Yoga Studio + Café: offers FREE Yoga in the Park June 17-August 28, 2019 |
Mondays 5:30-6:20pm for kids & adults | Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm for adults. | Drop in park
yoga is held at Kin Kanyon, in case of in-climate weather, classes will be brought into the studio.
Volkssport Walkers of Central Alberta The club will host walks on Wednesdays in Red Deer,
Sylvan lake, Lacombe and surrounding areas. Walking for fun, fitness and friendship!
Sunnybrook Farm Museum : Sunnybrook Farm Museum celebrates the

KerryWood Nature Centre & Gaetz Lakes : Explore the Nature Centre
programs and see the newly renovated exhibits, natural playground
and music garden or simply go for a stroll on one of the fabulous nature
trails in the Sanctuary with five kilometres of trails, a bird blind, and
viewing decks introduce you to a variety of habitats. | Admission: FreeParks and Recreation
Park Passport 2019 Are you looking to meet new people, giving your children
a chance to be active outside and to play with other children? Then drop by
and join us for some fun each week at a different playground in the city. This is
also a great way for families who are new to Red Deer to get connected to the
community. We provide toys and activities, all that you need to bring are your kids, a snack and
some water to drink! The program meets Wednesday morning May 29 - August 28 from 9:30
-11:30 am. Program is weather dependent, check FSCA on Facebook for cancellations.

Bower Ponds & Great Chief Park (4707 Fountain Dr) Beautiful walking trails, playgrounds,
picnic areas, pitch and putt course, paddleboat/kayak rentals and concession
Heritage Ranch (25 Riverview Park) Picnic areas, playground and a trout pond. Many kilometres
of paved and gravel trails wind also through the forest to the Red Deer River providing a perfect
location for walking and biking. Fee: Hayrides, pony rides, and coffee shop
Rotary Picnic Park (43 St & 48 Ave) All ages playground, picnic shelter, fire-pits (Bring your own
firewood), washrooms facilities. Piper “Mountain,” and access to Waskasoo trail system
Maskepetoon Park is an ecological gem tucked away in the west end of Red Deer. Visitors can
access the park via Kerrywood Drive and once there, can stroll along paths and trails that wind
through the forest and marshland.
Riverbend Mini-Links Course (9 hole, 565 yard, par 27). Admission: $10/13yrs and up | $5/child
7-12 yrs| pass $75-100

Inclusive Opportunities
Park IT is a free, drop-in summer outdoor playgroup for children with
special needs and their families. Community members are also welcome
to enjoy this free, drop-in program. Come and explore different parks as
we play together doing crafts, music, story time and many more activities!

Kin Kanyon Spray Fountain (33 St & 47 Ave) Outdoor wading pool, spray
fountain, playground, and picnic tables | Admission: Free
Red Deer Recreation Centre Outdoor Pool (4501 47A Ave) The pool is a
50 metre, six lane pool with diving boards an attached zero depth leisure
pool that is used for lane swimming, public swimming and rentals.

Blue Grass Sod Farm Central Spray and Play Located at the northwest
corner of Rotary Recreation Park (47A Avenue and 48 Street). It includes
7,500 square feet of free, accessible and creative fun. Open 10am-9pm

Discovery Canyon is a seasonal waterpark located beside Riverbend Golf
and Recreation Area. It features a natural river-fed water pool, playground

Access to Funding for Active Programming
Rip ‘n Rec Summer Pass for youth ages 6-17 $50 gets you unlimited rides on Red Deer Transit and unlimited
access to drop in activities at Red Deer recreation centres all summer long. Pick up your pass at the Collicutt, Dawe,
Michener or Recreation Centres.
Red Deer Recreation and Culture Fee Assistance Program For more information click on community for
information regarding recreation fee assistance programs: Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake and Penhold.
Jumpstart is dedicated to removing barriers, so children can participate in organized sport and recreation.
Kidsport provides support to children to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.Arts and Culture
A Wilderness Adventure Through the Sacraments (ages 5-11) (volunteers 11+)
July 29-August 2, 2019 | 9:30am-12 noon. $10/child. There is no cost for

The Westerner Days Fair & Exposition Parade is the traditional kick-off
to Central Alberta's largest summer celebration. Over 30,000 people will
line the streets of downtown Red Deer on Wednesday, July 17, 2018 at
9:30 am to enjoy the decorated floats and vehicles, collector vehicles, local celebrities,
marching bands and livestock entries. Community sponsored discount days are July 18 & 21.
Central Alberta's largest outdoor street performer festival! All ages can
enjoy diverse talents and performers from across the globe, right here in
downtown Red Deer.Artists, performers, and street acts combine to
create a unique atmosphere that will inspire and amaze you with their
outrageous and ingenious performances. July 27th - 28th downtown Red Deer.

Red Deer Public Library Cards are free to all city residents and all youth under
18. RDPL membership cards may be used at all branches. To apply for a
borrower's card or renew an existing card: present one piece orf picture ID, or
two other pieces; one piece must show members’ current address (i.e. driver’s
license, tax receipt, or utility bill).
Experience Alberta's History Annual Pass which gets you into a number of
different sites across the province all year for a family rate of $120. Alberta's
heritage facilities are unique and interesting places to visit where you can learn,
have fun and connect with heritage.
Discovery Pass: N ew in 2018, children 17 and under get in FREE to visit the
National Historic Sites, Parks, and Marine Conservation Areas. There are 15
Parks Canada national historic sites and five national parks to visit in Alberta.
New citizens get free admission to Parks Canada locations for one year.

Norwegian Laft Hus (museum and cultural center) is a log house with a sod
roof, a replica of a 18th century farmhouse from the Numedal district in
Norway. They are located in heritage square, behind the recreation center
and south of the Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery. Admission: by donation
The Innisfail and District Historical Village is located on 52 Avenue and 42
Street (1 block west of the Hospital, between the local schools and Aquatic
Center). It originated in 1970 with the purpose of preserving and housing
the history of the Innisfail district. The Village is made up of eighteen
buildings, displayed on 2 acres of land. These are furnished to interpret the history of the area
up to the 1930s. There is a large display of farm machinery and a day use picnic area.
Admission: $3.00 per person or $15 per family. Children under 5 are free!
Stephenson House A snapshot-in-time of the year 1927 and the poetry of
Stephen himself. Open May 15 to September 3, 2018, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
daily. Admission: Adults $5, Seniors and students $4, Youth $2, Family
$14, Children 0-6 are free along with Canadian military and their families
with CFOne card along as well as Cultural Access Pass holders
Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site The trappers and traders who
lived at Rocky Mountain House 200 years ago wish they had all the
activities waiting for you to enjoy. Hike interpretive trails, take photos of the
bison herd or try on period costumes in the exhibit gallery. Learn to make
bannock, traditional games and dream catchers or picnic near the play fort.

RDCRS READS continues into the summer months by promoting reading growth. This is done
by getting books into the hands of students, increasing access to books to eliminate summer
reading loss and having school libraries open during the summer months.
You can foster a love of reading over the summer months:
● Take a trip to your local library and participate in their summer activities.
● Bring a book with you on holidays, when you go to the park or to the beach.
● Enjoy a good book before bed.
● Discover digital books that you can take anywhere with you.
● Enjoy a variety of reading materials, such as magazines, graphic novels, picture books,
comics, etc.
This award-winning program is designed to strengthen students' literacy skills.
