                        recall

Year 7 French Retrieval & recall - Rastrick High School: Home Learning Booklet 4: Half-Term 6 (lessons 7 - 14)
Revision:
The purpose of this booklet is to revisit the topics we have studied over the course of this
academic year. However, this time, you will not be using the Subject Knowledge Organisers
or Sentence Builders. The aim of this booklet is for you to develop your RECALL and
RETRIEVAL skills through revisiting activities and work you completed throughout the year
(i.e. are you able to complete activities based on what you can remember from the topics?)
This is an important skill when learning a language, and will help you in your future study!
This booklet is not a test, but you are testing yourself on what you have studied this year. If
you find that you are struggling, you are able to revisit your Subject Knowledge Organisers
and Sentence Builders, but this should only be a last resort!

The topics we will revisit this half-term are:
   •   Free time activities
   •   School
   •   Physical & personality descriptions
   •   Town
   •   Family & personal information

Towards the end of this half-term, you will also complete some pre-loading work, to prepare
yourself for the first topic in Year 8. This will be based on the topic of “holidays”.

Answers will also be provided so that you are able to mark your work and check your
progress. If a task has no answer, this means that there are any number of possible
answers to the task – all of which would be correct.

        Before completing the main tasks below, make sure you have practised the
        vocabulary and structures from your Subject Knowledge Organisers. I
        suggest doing this through Quizlet (see previous booklets for the links/QR
        codes). Alternatively, create your own flashcards or mind-maps to aid
        revision.

IN&ON: In French, using the prompt words given, describe what you can see in the picture.

Task 1: Before practising how to tell the time in French. How many numbers 1-25 can you

 1=                  6=             11 =              16 =             21 =
 2=                  7=             12 =              17 =             22 =
 3=                  8=             13 =              18 =             23 =
 4=                  9=             14 =              19 =             24 =
 5=                  10 =           15 =              20 =             25 =

Task 2: Spend 5 minutes making
notes on the key vocabulary
related to telling the time. You
use ‘son las’ followed by the
hour you need:
Year 7 French Retrieval & recall - Rastrick High School: Home Learning Booklet 4: Half-Term 6 (lessons 7 - 14)
To say half past you add et demie to the end of the time phrase.
     • Il est une heure et demie - It's half past one
     • Il est cinq heures et demie - It's half past five

And for quarter past you add et quart.
    • Il est deux heures et quart - It's quarter past two
    • Il est quatre heures et quart - It's quarter past four

To say quarter to or minutes to you use moins le quart (minus a quarter) or
moins ‘dix’ (minus a certain number of minutes).
     • Il est deux heures moins le quart - It's quarter to two (literally, it's
       two minus a quarter)
     • Il est six heures moins dix - It's ten to six (literally, it's six minus
       ten)

Task 3: Using the explanations above, write down, in French, the times shown by the 6
clocks.
Year 7 French Retrieval & recall - Rastrick High School: Home Learning Booklet 4: Half-Term 6 (lessons 7 - 14)

3. Who loves swimming and sunbathing?
4. Whose family goes to the beach at midday?

8. Who does their French homework on Friday?
9. Who goes to the beach at 2pm on a Sunday?
10. Who likes going to the beach with their cousin?

Task 5: Using the example below as a model, you are writing to your French pen-pal to
describe what your town is like, as well as what you do in your free-time in town.
You must describe: where your town is; its size & your opinion of it; what is & isn’t in your
town; the activities you do and the times at which you do these.

Par exemple: J’habite à Huddersfield – c’est une ville assez petite.
J’adore ma ville parce que je pense que c’est jolie, et il y a beaucoup
de choses à faire: il y a une piscine, un cinéma et un bowling. Mais il n’y
a pas de stade. Le week-end, à midi, je fais du shopping avec mes
amis. Aussi, chaque samedi, à dix heures et demie, je joue au foot
avec mon frère.
